Appointment Type: Temporary Provisional (TPV). This is not a permanent appointment. A provisional appointee must participate and succeed in a Civil Service examination for this classification and be selected through an open competitive process to be considered for permanent appointment. Public Works currently has a vacancy for the position of Cement Finisher Supervisor I (7227) within our Bureau of Urban Forestry (BUF).

Bureau of Urban Forestry (BUF)

Oversees median maintenance, tree planting, and the healthy maintenance of the 124,000-plus city-owned trees through the voter-backed StreetTreeSF program. In addition, our dedicated crews repair sidewalks and build curb ramps to advance safety and accessibility for the communities across San Francisco. Under general supervision, as a Cement Finisher Supervisor I, you will supervise the activities of cement finishers and other skilled craft workers engaged in a variety of maintenance and repair cement finishing projects and related work. 

Important and Essential Duties:

Your duties as a Cement Finisher Supervisor I may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

Planning, assigning, and supervising the work of cement finishers and related craftsmen at various locations.

Preparing labor and materials cost estimates for various jobs.

Inspecting work in progress and completed work to ensure compliance with instructions and standard procedures.

Keeping time of employees and making required reports on materials and time expended on each project.

Overseeing the care and maintenance of cement finishing and related equipment.

Assisting in the development and advancement of staff.

Attending and conducting safety meetings.

Responding to inquiries and complaints from the public and others.

Coordinating work with other craft supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Completion of a recognized three-year cement mason apprenticeship program.

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience as a journey-level cement mason.

License and Certification:

Possession and maintenance of a valid class C drivers license.

Substitution:

An additional three (3) years of work experience as a journey-level cement mason may substitute for the three-year cement mason apprenticeship program.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

Valid Driver’s License: Applicants must possess a valid State of California driver’s license with no restrictions that would prohibit them from legally performing the essential functions and duties of the role. 

Desirable Qualifications:

The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify candidates advancing to the interview process and/or to identify job finalist(s) at the end of the selection process when referred for hiring.

Ability to use Microsoft Suites

Knowledge of ADA curb ramp slopes

The selection process will include an evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements. Depending on the number of applicants, the department may establish and implement additional screening mechanisms to comparatively evaluate the qualifications of candidates. If this becomes necessary, only those applicants whose qualifications most closely meet the needs of the department will move forward in the recruitment process.

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ):

Candidates may be required to complete an MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicants experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.
