WSP is currently initiating a search for a Project Controller to join our expanding, Earth and Environment (E&E) Project Management group based in Rancho Cordova, CA.

The Project Controller will be involved in selected stages of a project’s life cycle (i.e. Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring and Control, and/or Closure) for consulting services related to earth and environment projects including site characterization and remediation, environmental permitting and compliance, water/wastewater treatment, and mining.  Most components of this role will relate to engineering and/or environmental consulting scopes.  The role will be focused on technical practice areas in our earth and environment business such as site assessment and remediation, geotechnical engineering, geosciences, surface water, and groundwater in aspects of projects ranging from site characterization, permitting and planning, desktop analyses, feasibility studies, research and detailed design.  This project controller role will work closely with project managers and technical managers and ensure the correct delivery of projects within budget and schedule.

Your Impact

Setting up and coordinating the project according to the approach outlined in the WSP’s Project Delivery Manual and in line with established quality control procedures.

Coordinate with project manager, project team and client: monitoring and control of budgets, expenditures, schedules, progress deliverables, forecast, invoicing, change management, resourcing requirements, logistics coordination, document control, proposal preparation and project closeout activities.

Liaising with subcontractors and suppliers and helping with preparation of subcontractor work orders and invoicing payments

Assisting with developing and tracking Health and Safety requirements and associated plans.

The Project Controller will independently prepare initial budgeting and financial forecasting activities relying on their professional judgement, analytical techniques, and project-specific training/discussions. The Project Controller will require extensive use of scheduling software (i.e., MS Project or Primavera) and macros-enabled MS Excel workbooks to convert financial data into a format to be used for budget and financial forecasting.

The Project Controller will own preparation of and be responsible for production of high quality technical and professional deliverables for projects, including but not limited to:

invoicing (checking bill rates, contract compliance, correct reference to project and client PO, correct billing dates, etc.) using company specific business systems (supported by Oracle)

budget and financial forecasting using company specific business systems (supported by Oracle)

resolve issues that arise related to schedule, budget, invoicing, etc. keep PM appraised of situation and escalate as appropriate.

The Project Controller will assist PMs with large projects and/or large portfolio of projects, with the preparation, compilation, and professional delivery of project data.

The Project Controller will be responsible for identification of technical problems and analyze potential impact to project. Work directly with technical resources to resolve issues minimizing disruption to workflow, scope, schedule, and budget. Will escalate to PM as necessary.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in environmental, science, engineering or related degree, OR in lieu of a degree 4 years of related experience

Minimum of 3-5 years of demonstrated experience of relevant skills with a degree

Basic knowledge of project management principles and PMI’s Body of Knowledge

Excellent organizational skills

Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, manage conflicting priorities, and work well under pressure in a rapidly changing environment

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to learn processes quickly and prioritize client requirements

Strong team player, self-motivated and proactive thinker with flexible can-do attitude

Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and Adobe Acrobat Software

Previous experience working in a consulting business would be considered an asset

PMP certification would be an asset

Experience in field / supply logistics and travel bookings

Experience working in the mining or construction industries or environmental/engineering fields.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Expected Salary: $82,400-120,000
