How you make a difference

As a PsychiatricRegistered Nurse for Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) programs, this role involvescoordinating patient care, working closely with jail nursing staff and psychiatrists to ensure continuity of care,and providing comprehensive psychiatric and medical care through the nursing process. The job alsoincludes participating in program services, demonstrating knowledge and therapeutic intervention skills, andapplying principles of psychiatric rehabilitation based on the understanding of psychiatric mental healthdisorders and human growth and development.

Key Responsibilities

Provides comprehensive psychiatric and medical care to IST patients based on knowledge ofpsychiatric mental health disorders, human growth and development, and principles ofpsychiatricrehabilitation.

Coordinates with IST Psychiatrist and jail nursing staff for medication ordering, conducts chart reviews,and facilitates computer/tablet use during psychiatric prescriber encounters.

Provides psycho-educational groups, monitors psychotropic medication efficiency and side effects, and completes nursing assessments.

Serves as a resource and role model for multidisciplinary staff, triages basic medical complaints from IST patients, and demonstrates thorough knowledge of applicable nursing services and policies.

Maintains current knowledge through professional development opportunities and adheres to regulatory requirements regarding medication administration, documentation, and education.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

Graduate from an accredited college, university or vocational school nursing program.

Bachelor of Science Nursing degree from an accredited school and/or certification in mental health nursing is preferred.

Experience

Experience in correctional mental health and/or psychiatric care at a secure facility preferred

Licenses/Certifications

Current nursing license or eligible for same through licensure by endorsement through reciprocity within state of employment.

Phlebotomy certification strongly preferred
