## Nature of Work

The purpose of this job is to maintain, inspect and grade all sanitary and storm systems in Grand Rapids and customer communities. Assists customers with concerns and complaints on a 24/7 basis.

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

– Cleans and maintains the sanitary and storm water systems in Grand Rapids and surrounding areas
– Performs inspections of sanitary and storm water collection systems; diagnoses and troubleshoots issues using cameras; marks defects using locators
– Operates CSAT to operate TV inspection systems that include: a digital pipeline scanner, steerable pan and tilt lateral launch and mainline camera, unmanned sewer inspection robots, associated reels, cables, and controllers
– Performs data entry and grading of Grand Rapids and surrounding areas collection systems using Asset management software
– Assists Water Resource Recovery Facility with special projects, including lift station wet well maintenance; assists utility repair crews, as needed 
– Performs vehicle maintenance and inspections on all utilized equipment; participates in the maintenance, repair and cleaning of tools, equipment and facilities
– Operates and maintains specialized heavy equipment utilized to perform routine and emergency maintenance/cleaning and obstruction removal on all components of the sanitary and storm sewer systems
– Installs, checks and maintains appropriate safety devices 
– Utilizes GIS information, blueprints, plans, profiles and line diagrams, topographical maps, etc. to locate and diagnose system and component inequities
– Responds to customer complaints involving sanitary and storm water sewer system disruptions and other emergencies on a 24-hour basis
– Completes the appropriate departmental, local, state and federally mandated forms associated with standards and permits applicable to the sanitary and storm water systems
– Perform emergency snow and ice control operations
– Performs related work as required

## Minimum Training and Experience

Required Education and Experience

– High School diploma (or GED equivalent), with some additional technical training

–AND–

– At least two (2) years of progressive experience in public works field work, sanitary and/or storm water sewer system pipeline maintenance operations, or varied maintenance of construction work in sanitary, storm, or water utilities, with demonstrated proficiency in equipment operations

–OR–

– Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities

 

Required Licenses or Certifications

NASSCO (National Association of Sewer Services Companies) certification within one year of employment.

Sacramento State College Operation and Maintenance of Wastewater Collection Systems I and II Program within 6 months of employment.

Confined space certification to be completed within 6 months of employment.

Forklift certification to be completed within 6 months of employment.

Commercial Class “A” drivers license with air brake
