General Summary:

The incumbent will lead a dynamic team of ML engineers and AI architects to develop transformative AI solutions. You will partner closely with Unum IT Delivery, Transformation leadership, and Unum Enterprise architecture to lead the delivery of AI based digital products. This role will have direct management responsibilities for a team of highly technical AI architects and engineers along with other IT specialist positions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Inspire, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of AI engineers and ML specialists by fostering a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and execution excellence.

Oversee the end-to-end development and deployment of cutting-edge AI products/solutions.

Ensure that AI/ML solutions are scalable, maintainable, and meet performance and accuracy standards

Ensure seamless integration of AI technologies into existing systems/workflow and Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and execute project roadmaps.

Ensure the delivery of high-quality software and systems on time and within budget.

Lead AI projects using agile methodologies and MLOps practices and monitor project progress with KPIs, maintaining high-quality standards throughout.

Ensure AI systems adhere to ethical standards and comply with AI regulations.

Work with legal and security teams to maintain AI security, privacy, and legal compliance.

Establish and enforce best practices in AI development, including version control, code review processes, model evaluation metrics, and responsible AI principles

Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in data engineering, AI, and machine learning

Promote a culture of experimentation and learning from failures, encouraging the team to push boundaries and explore innovative AI applications

Act as a bridge between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, clearly communicating AI project progress, challenges, and impacts.

Collaborate closely with product managers, technical architects, software engineers, UX designers, and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure AI initiatives align with business goals and user needs

Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure high-quality data pipelines and efficient data management practices that support AI model development and deployment

Contribute to compelling reports and presentations to executive leadership, showcasing the progress and value of AI initiatives.

Job Specifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, or related field

10 years of related experience with 5 years in building AI/ML products/solutions and at least 4-5 years in a leadership role

Proven track record of delivering complex AI projects from conception to production.

Experience in Insurance and/or healthcare is a plus

Strong understanding of AI/ML technologies and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).

Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and big data technologies.

Familiarity with DataOps, DevOps and MLOps practices and tools.

Familiarity with AI ethics, responsible AI principles, and relevant regulations

Experience in strategic planning and roadmap development for AI/ML initiatives

Understanding of budgeting and resource allocation in technology projects

Demonstrated depth of IT knowledge with diversity in pragmatic technical experience. Is seen as a credible technology partner

Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$133,500.00-$274,100.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
