In this position…

A great opportunity to work with prototype creative and work with protypes that are not designed yet.

You will be involved in the prototype community with designs from concept to launch.

Have an idea for a protype in the shower one morning, you could see that idea come to life.

The Prototype Development Engineer position requires the ability to work with Engineering, Management, and the UAW to assist with designing, planning, and producing components, fixtures, etc., for prototype, development, and production needs. Knowledge and Experience with Stamping & Body Builds, Structures Engineering, and Dimensional Processes is essential to help develop solutions with Engineering and plan workload with the Management & Skilled Trades Team.

What you`ll do…

Provide strategic direction for parts fabrication to a team of Salary and Hourly Skilled Trades of Metal Model Makers and Toolmakers

Subject Matter Expert for Fabrication Area and Tool Room Area related to part Design and Build, and Customer Delivery

Evaluate incoming work orders for feasibility and timing, and communicate effectively with the customer to establish agreed upon timing for delivery

Responsible to deliver the correct tools and coordinate and purchase raw materials to meet customer requirements to maximize production and minimize downtime, to deliver with Quality, and to provide low cost, effective solutions

Responsible for Capital Improvement Projects for both Tooling and Facilities within the Fabrication Area to continuously improve capabilities, including providing direction into the Capital Improvement Budget Business Plan

Provide oversight to transform processes and adopt lean manufacturing principles

Collaborate with NMPDC Metal Fabrication Area and Tool Room Area supervisors, Research & Engineering supervisors, and potentially third-party contractors to provide fabrication solutions

Establish strong, working relationships with NMPDC Salaried and UAW Leadership and Committees to ensure plans and requirements are fully understood and issues are resolved effectively and efficiently

Support Stamping Business Unit reworks, Product Development design changes, and containment action trials on an almost daily basis for production, launch, and development

Lead and support Green Belt projects within NMPDC

Drive safe work practices, including housekeeping in all areas

Develop, coach, and support to achieve Ford Operating System (OS) Behaviors and SQDCPME objectives

Competent in the use of data for decision making

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Work well under pressure and be able to work under crisis management when necessary

Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate leadership in One FORD (leadership) behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal, teambuilding, and communication skills

Youll have…

Bachelors degree.

Knowledge and Experience with Stamping, Body Build, Structures Engineering, and Dimensional Processes.

Strong collaboration and presentation skills.

Previous Project Leadership experience required.

UAW experience required.

This position is a range of salary grades 6 – 8.
