Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid Louisiana cosmetology license plus two years of experience as a licensed cosmetologist, beauty shop inspector or teacher of cosmetology.

Function of Work:
To protect the health, safety and welfare of the general public by inspecting beauty and cosmetology shops and schools for compliance with applicable state rules and regulations.

Broad review from a Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology member in the assigned district.
Supervision Exercised:
None.
Location of Work:
Department of Economic Development; Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Barber Shop Inspector by responsibility for enforcing the rules and regulations of the Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology rather than those of the Board of Barber Examiners.
Examples of Work
Collects fees for licenses from salons, schools and operators; prepares receipts for funds and accounts for checks and money orders until turned in to the Board.
Inspects active and inactive beauty shops and beauty/cosmetic schools to determine adherence to rules and regulations of the Board of Cosmetology.
Observes that cosmetologist licenses are current and displayed in shops and schools.
Inspects premises for cleanliness and general sanitary conditions, gives advice for the elimination of any unsanitary conditions.
Learns, interprets and applies laws, rules and regulations in the inspection of beauty shops and beauty/cosmetic schools and in the enforcement/investigation of complaints, such as unlicensed persons working in a shop.
Prepares written reports, summary sheets, and records daily on all inspections; recommends corrective action; appears before the Board to substantiate findings.
