Role Summary/Purpose:

The Vice President, Principal Software Development Engineer craves working in a hands-on software design, development and architecture environment, and leads by example to make sure time sensitive projects get done on time and to specifications. To be successful in this role, deep expertise in java spring boot software engineering, modern web service architectures and the ability to influence and manage a team of software engineers are musts.

This VP will lead multiple Credit Engineering initiatives within PRISM. They will manage engineers who participate in many credit engineering agile teams and release trains. They will also be responsible for leading cross cutting engineering goals like QA automation, Dev Ops and code quality improvement initiatives

Essential Responsibilities:

Manager a team of software engineers (managing juniors and mid-level engineers)

Influence many agile development teams through all phases of the Agile development life cycle through SAFE

Implement new technologies and assist developers as they migrate to new technologies

Establish application architecture standards and best practices for java microservices

Architect applications across the full stack, experience in PCF, Cloud Native Application Architecture, Microservices ecosystem, J2EE, Spring Java, and RESTful APIs are a must.

Design data models to support complex business processes

Drive a CI/CD strategy using our Jenkins, Bitbucket, and uDeploy stack.

Influence and collaborate with software developers, UX designers, product managers, application architects, and customer application experts to create amazing web apps.

Mentor and influence all levels of the team: in this role, you will have the opportunity to influence up and down the chain of command

Ensure compliance with architecture, security and technology standards set by Synchrony Financial

Assist in crafting and maintaining the future state technology architectural strategy, along with our application modernization and migration roadmap.

Ensure application code quality through development, test, and QA

Participate in addressing root cause analyses, incident reports and provide direction in problem resolution

Ability to analyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, and implement fixes

Passionate about the latest technologies, open source projects and languages;

Provide 24×7 on-call support periodically throughout the year

Identify ways to increase efficiency and improve system performance

Work with third party vendors to develop software and/or integrate their software into the companys products

Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelors degree and a minimum 8 years of experience with software engineering OR, in lieu of degree, High School Diploma/GED 10 years of experience with software engineering.

Minimum of 5 years of credit engineering support / experience

Experience / knowledge of credit underwriting systems (i.e. Bureaus, DaaS platforms, Customer360 and evaluation services)

Experience / knowledge with Fiserv and other account build systems

Strong experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry

Deep domain knowledge of responsive web service design principles

Desired Characteristics:

Experience with continuous integration environments

Mastery with writing unit, integration, and code coverage test cases

Familiarity with JSON, REST and XML based web services

Excellence in technical communication with technical and non-technical peers

Cross-functional team player with the ability to work seamlessly across a matrix organization and partner with global development companies

Strong oral and written communication, analytical and problem solving skills

Desire to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment

Knowledge developing and supporting financial/banking applications

Interpersonal skills with ability to influence clients, team members, management and external groups

Previously used Splunk for production support

Strong attention to detail in a team environment

Ability to analyze, use structured problem solving and available tools to troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, action plans, impact and resolution options

Grade/Level: 12

The salary range for this position is 130,000.00 – 210,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

You must be 18 years or older

You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you dont meet the time in position or performance expectations).
