The Senior Radiology Technologist acts as an Imaging/Radiology sub-specialty technical leader sharing expertise in their specific field. Provides training to other technologists in their field. Provides communication with supervisors relating to their sections needs and concerns. Performs studies in their related field according to local, state and federal standards.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Utilizes expertise to provide leadership and training for technologists in their section of Imaging/Radiology.

Coordinates and teaches new procedures and functions to their technical staff.

Demonstrates competency in the knowledge of the RIS/HIS and scheduling (SCI) modules appropriate to their job responsibilities.

Responsible for the successful technical continuity of care for patients in their specific field.

Acts as a liaison between department sections providing appropriate communication as needed.

Assists with all procedures including invasive and communicates clinical observations made during procedures to the Radiologist.

Acts as a liaison between Radiologist and Technologist providing appropriate communication and problem solving as needed.

Responsible to meet regularly with immediate supervisor to communicate the needs and concerns of the department; is actively involved in the department’s budgetary process.

Responsible for providing input for annual staff evaluation in accordance with department/hospital guidelines.

Utilizing good problem solving skills in the absence of appropriate supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Frequent to almost continuous use of fingers and hands in operating equipment, performing examinations and in charting information. Standing or walking from 2 to up to 7 hours per day in 15 to 60 minute increments. Sitting from 1 to 6 hours per day in 15 to 30 minute increments. Pushing, pulling and lifting patients up to 300 pounds with assistance. Lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds. Frequent stoops, bends and crouches. Often reaches above shoulder level. Feeling as it relates to palpating of patient’s veins. Hearing as it relates from normal to high level of hearing. Seeing as it relates to normal vision.

EDUCATION:

Graduate from an ARRT recognized education program and ARRT registered.

NJ staff must have current New Jersey State Radiologic Technologist License (with NJ Dept. of Environmental Protection) required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of two years experience as a staff technologist required with at least three to four years experience in their specific modality preferred. CPR certification required before completion of orientation. History of computer usage experience required.
