Primary Responsibilities

• Accountable to accomplish all work activities in Maintenance Services in the most cost effective manner possible without compromising safety, ensuring compliance with the applicable Technical Specifications, Quality Assurance procedures and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) facility licenses. This requires: Involvement in planning and scheduling process to factor in field knowledge and experience. Ensuring the most cost effective work strategy has been selected (i.e. contract vs. in-house labor, overtime reduction, shift strategy, crew mix, and utilization of new technologies, products, tools or equipment). Maintaining accountability and productivity at a high level. Ongoing involvement in training program requirements and assessments.

• Accountable for long range work planning and organizational decisions for Maintenance Services. Typically decisions that would initiate organizational changes that would increase effectiveness and reduce costs, interpretation of labor agreement issues that have the potential of affecting other departments, plant modifications that would reduce maintenance costs, and internal progression line promotions for B/U personnel.

• Manages and controls the day to day production and outage efforts of the Maintenance Services by directing and assigning responsibilities to front line foremen and other supervisors to achieve the objectives and goals of a specific task and holding them accountable for results.

• Responsible for the overall administration and control of the plant Maintenance Projects and Modifications. Accountable for the implementation of assigned projects and modifications, initiation of procurement documents for materials and services to support project implementation, development and periodic review of Maintenance Instructions, Procedures and Safety Compliance.

• Establishes goals, trains and develops subordinates through guidance, performance evaluations, motivation, discipline, rewards, coaching and counseling. Provides subordinates with career guidance to maintain standards, which define the desired level of competency in terms of training and expertise. Establishes and monitors budgets, project plans, performance and production goals, objectives and measurements that drive the organization to higher levels of achievement.

• Supports the terms and conditions of the current Labor Agreement as it relates to Maintenance Department bargaining unit employees.

• Manages and provides Maintenance Services manpower and facilitates the supply of contract resources to meet power plant maintenance needs. Works with various Station Management to assure timely and efficient site access processing, training and qualification to meet schedule demands

• Maintains interface with other Nuclear Department groups. Ensures Maintenance Services adheres to Company procurement policies concerning such matters as competitive bidding and strategic alliances. Interfaces with groups external to SSES such as suppliers, manufacturers, vendors and regulatory agencies.

Basic Qualifications

1. High School diploma or equivalent.

2. Seven years of responsible nuclear plant experience or applicable industrial experience, a minimum of five years of which shall be nuclear power plant experience. A maximum of two years of the remaining six years of power plant or industrial experience may be fulfilled by satisfactory completion of academic or related technical training on a one for one time basis.

3. Non-destructive testing familiarity, craft knowledge, and an understanding of electrical, pressure vessel, and piping codes.

4. Extensive knowledge of all Maintenance Programs, job requirements, procedures, work activities, and plant systems.

5. Thorough knowledge of labor agreements and administration requirements.

6. Thorough knowledge of all planning / scheduling requirements, information management systems and man-hour estimating programs.

7. Thorough knowledge and understanding of Susquehanna Training and Certification Programs.

8. Ability to effectively manage a fluctuating resource pool of 100 to 1500 people along with developing work strategies that yield a proven significant cost savings.

FSAR Qualifications

Education: Shall hold a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Shall have seven years of responsible power plant experience, a minimum of one year of which shall be nuclear power plant experience. A maximum of two years of the remaining six years of experience may be fulfilled by academic or related technical training on a one-for-one time basis. He/she further should have nondestructive testing familiarity, craft knowledge, and an understanding of electrical, pressure vessel, and piping codes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in engineering, business, or a related area.

• 15 years of nuclear power plant operations experience.

• 10 years of project management experience.

• Professional certification in a related area.
