The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.
As a systems engineering subject matter expert on a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will lead the spacecraft systems engineering efforts as part our Blue Ring Spacecraft team. This position reports to the Systems Engineering Sr Director for the space mobility product line. You will be responsible for delivering an integrated, fully verified spacecraft to mission management for payload and launch vehicle integration. You will work at a spacecraft system level and are expected to be the technical authority for the vehicle as well as how it interfaces with all external systems and equipment. This role will begin with a first-of-its-kind satellite in development, and grow with the product line through multiple missions and objectives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide technical spacecraft expertise and leadership to the systems engineering team as both a doer and a mentor to others.
Own the systems engineering process for a vehicle from design through delivery.
Own requirements structure and allocation, and requirements change management, including interface definition and designs.
Capture stakeholder needs from mission management and our systems architect for documentation in our spacecraft specifications.
Coordinate requirement applicability for a specific build in a product line that is designed for multiple missions.
Plan verification methods and conceptualize verification events.
Perform technical analysis, trade studies, and research.
Design mission threads to connect spacecraft to external systems.
Complete vehicle specification buy-off with verification and validation information from Assembly, Integration, and Test.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or equivalent technical field.
15 years of related experience in the design, development, and flight of aerospace systems, preferably robotic spacecraft.
6 years in aerospace systems engineering
Have worked at least one aerospace system project from requirements definition through verification.
Subject matter expert in Systems Engineering processes and best practices (deep understanding of the “Systems Engineering V”).
Proven problem solving skills and has mastered trade study methods.
Leadership or management experience as well as a history of mentoring.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Ability to obtain a US Government Top Secret Clearance
Desired:
Experience across the product life cycle (pre-conceptual design through operational support).
Space flight systems certification process experience.
Familiarity with spacecraft initialization and mission operations concepts.
Experience with system level requirements derivation and allocation.
Knowledge of collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA.
Familiarity with formal risk and opportunity management processes.
