RN / Registered Nurse – Outpatient Lactation Consultant – Part Time – Days

The RN/IBCLC Breastfeeding Supporter is a registered nurse and certified lactation consultant responsible for promoting, supporting, and protecting breastfeeding in the outpatient setting. This role provides education, guidance, and clinical support to breastfeeding dyad (lactating parent and infant) and their families. The ideal candidate will collaborate with the Breastfeeding Medicine Specialist.

Accountabilities:
• Perform adult and pediatric vital signs including but not limited to infant weight, head circumference, length, respiratory rate, and heart rate, adult heart rate and blood pressure
• Identify and notify medical provider abnormal vitals, assessment findings and diagnostics immediately
• Provide evidence-based lactation support and counseling to the lactating parent during prenatal, postpartum, and follow-up visits in a group and/or clinic setting
• Conduct comprehensive breastfeeding assessments, develop individualized care plans, and monitor progress to ensure successful breastfeeding outcomes

Perform clinical breast assessment and provide evidence-based management for common issues such as engorgement and nipple pain
Perform infant breastfeeding assessment including lingual function
Teach methods to achieve comfortable latching and positioning to optimize breast/chest feeding
Perform weighted feeding assessment
Educate patients on various breast pump technologies, as well as hand expression

• Educate and support lactating parent in the prevention and management of common breastfeeding challenges, such as latching difficulties, milk supply concerns, and nipple pain.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers including Breastfeeding Medicine Specialist, Obstetrician, and Pediatrician to ensure a continuum of care and promote breastfeeding practices
• Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, documenting assessments, interventions, and outcomes in accordance with organizational policies and professional standards
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research projects, and professional development activities to enhance breastfeeding support services and maintain clinical expertise
Education: Associate Degree in Nursing,
Skills & Years of Experience: At least 3-4 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably two of which in maternal-child nursing or a related field.
License: Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Ohio (RN)
Certification: International Board Certified Lactation Consultant preferred, related certifications considered on individualized basis

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
• Experience in quality improvement and evidence-based practice implementation and evaluation
• Experience in educational program development
• Experience in adult education utilizing principles of teaching and learning
