JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Abington is searching for up to eight (8) part-time STEM Academy Teaching Assistants for an in-person math and science based high school program at a community organization in Northeast Philadelphia. The Teaching Assistants will be responsible for offering classroom support and content tutoring while working with faculty in STEM fields (Engineering, Math, Physics, IST, Computer Science). Project activities will occur between September 2024 and June 2025, with opportunities to extend project participation into later semesters. Program activities take place between 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on most weekdays. Teaching Assistants will generally work between 8-12 hours per week.Hourly compensation for this opening is $18/hour with long-term participation in the project potentially being at a higher rate and/or for additional hours.

Job Duties
Work collaboratively to deliver STEM based instruction, activities, and labs for high school students.
Follow and revise written instructions and supporting materials for all STEM activities.
Provide weekly updates, reports, and materials to STEM Faculty Coordinator.
Communicate regularly with fellow STEM team members and Faculty Coordinator to ensure proper content and problem solving.

Requirements and Qualifications
Timely completion of job responsibilities and taking initiative to resolve problems.
Proficiency within at least one STEM area of interest (Engineering, Math, Physics, IST, Computer Science) or Education (5th semester students or higher preferred).
Ability to understand instructions and work independently as well as collaboratively on tasks.

Employment with the University for this job will require successful completion of the Pennsylvania (PA) Publicly Available Clearances: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and the FBI Criminal History Background Check.
Current or former Penn State Abington student (preferred).
