The Challenge

We are looking for 3 experienced transportation workers to join our East Wake County Maintenance team.

In this role, you will:

– Perform maintenance tasks in preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of state-maintained roads and roadside feature.
– Install traffic and erosion control devices.
– Clear right of ways.
– Perform roadway grading and machining of unpaved roads.
– Lead pavement repair, pipe installation, and other drainage tasks.
– Inspect contract work and monitor manual tasks.
– Provide emergency response including traffic accident clean-up, snow and ice removal, hurricane cleanups, and other emergencies.
– Operate equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, skid steers, tandem dump trucks, forklifts, front end loaders, tractor trailers, motor graders, rollers, and other heavy equipment.
– Perform flagging operations to safely guide traffic through work zones.
– Perform manual labor for extended time.

What You Bring

– Knowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety.
– Traffic control installation experience.
– Experience in 1 of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, or asphalt patching.
– Snow and ice removal operations experience.
– Experience operating 2 pieces of the following equipment: backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, forklift, force feed loader, asphalt distributor, crack sealing machine, track excavator, skid steer, or sweeper.
– Working knowledge of the principals involved in the operation and use of equipment.
– Ability to perform assigned tasks and to follow verbal and written instructions as directed.
– Ability to perform manual labor, including operating chain saws, shoveling, driving trucks and litter pickup.
– Ability to work well in extreme hot and cold weather.
– Agility to climb, bend, and traverse steep/uneven terrain.
– Strength to repetitively lift 50 pounds.
– A Class A Commercial Drivers License with Tanker (N) endorsement. (Dont have it? Still apply! You can get it after you are hired through our on-the-job training program within 360 days of hire.)
– Safety toe shoes.
