Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
Experience: Internal Candidates: Satisfactory experience as a Public Safety Officer/Corporal (Armed/Unarmed) at a Novant Health hospital or facility. External Candidates: Minimum of three years public safety experience at a supervisory level, requred.
Licensure/Certification: IAHSS Basic Certification, preferred. NCPPSB Armed Security Officer Registration Permit, required. NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire, required. American Heart Association BLS required within 90 days of hire Required.
Additional Skills (required): Must be able to qualify for and maintain a North Carolina Private Protective Board Armed Security Officer Registration Permit in accordance with annual training and qualification standards established by Novant Health within one year of appointment or promotion. Public contact experience. Advanced Training Certification preferred. Satisfactorily completes all required organizational and departmental basic, field and in-service training programs including the Corporate Public Safety Training Plan. Basic computer skills. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Ability to accurately receive and transmit information by radio and telephone. Ability to translate observations and information into legible, complete, and accurate reports. Thorough knowledge of The Joint Commission Environment of Care, Emergency Management and other applicable standards, CMS Conditions of Participation and other regulatory standards. Thorough knowledge of the Hospital Incident Command System and the hospitals or facilitys emergency procedures. Thorough knowledge of EMTALA and HIPAA rules. Thorough knowledge of state criminal statutes, elements of crimes and criminal procedure. No criminal record. Satisfactory driving record in accordance with Risk Management requirements. Maintains valid drivers license in the state of residence. Maintains compliance with the Novant Health Vehicle Use Policy (NHLD-FM-3). Immediately notifies Director of Public Safety or Public Safety Manager of any and all charges relating to the operation of a motor vehicle and/or criminal complaint.
