General Summary:

The Manager, Investor Relations will work with the AVP, Corporate Finance, the SVP, Investor Relations & Treasury and other members of senior leadership of the Company to represent the company and proactively educate industry analysts, investors and prospective investors to achieve its goals of maximizing long-term stock value. The position will also assist the AVP, Corporate Finance and SVP, Investor Relations & Treasury in maintaining relationships with key rating agencies in an effort to cultivate confidence so that the Company maintains the ratings needed to operate effectively.

This position reports to the Assistant Vice President, Corporate Finance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Support the execution of the investor relations strategy, including active participation, and assisting other leaders with meetings to provide analysts and investors with realistic expectations of the Company’s performance, while at the same time protecting confidential Company information.

Monitor changes and trends in investment markets and help translate and communicate potential impacts to the company to both internal stakeholders and external.

Through communication with analysts and investors, understand the investment thesis for the company, and help communicate to internal stakeholders, to facilitate two way communication.

Monitor analyst estimates of key financial metrics for the company and report to company leadership to provide awareness of market expectation and ensure reasonableness and alignment with company targets.

Participate in and prepare material for rating agency meetings and assist in being an effective line between the agencies and Unum senior management.

Collaborate with leadership to manage relationships with existing and prospective investors, and analysts to influence an accurate view of Unum.

Assist in preparation of financial communications, including earnings releases, financially-related press releases, annual report, conference call scripts and investor presentations.

Cultivate relationships across finance and other areas of the organization to identify developments that may impact external communications, provide market intelligence, and source information needed to answer external stakeholder questions.

Assist in providing proactive, timely and consistent communications with analysts and investors through telephone and personal contact, meetings and written materials to address areas of interest and concern with analysts, ensuring accuracy in externally communicated materials.

Own quarterly and ad-hoc analysis of peer company financials, earnings calls, and presentations to ensure leaders are aware of key developments and trends in our markets.

Facilitate logistics for investor relations events such as earnings calls, investors days, or other events.

Help manage relationships and contracts with vendors.

Maintain the investor relations pages on the Company’s website ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices.

Provide subject matter expertise and assist Unum’s sale force with questions related to the Company’s ratings and financial strength.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

Bachelor’s degree required, pursuing or achievement of MBA or CFA preferred.

Minimum 5 years of experience in investor relations, finance or equivalent experience.

Strong financial analysis skills, and ability to interpret, correlate, and communicate a wide variety of financial information.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently and under time pressures

Excellent communications skills and ability to build effective relationships needed to work with all corporate levels including both senior management and key external stakeholders such as investors, analysts, and rating agencies

Solid understanding of the financial markets, and the life insurance sector

Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration

Strong presentation skills

Travel required

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$75,500.00-$142,700.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
