Microbiologist

The Microbiologist is responsible for performing microbiological testing within the Micro Control Program, and ensuring conformance to the Colgate Quality Standards.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

Perform microbiological testing of raw materials, work-in-process, water, air, equipment surfaces, and finished product following good laboratory practices and the micro control program

Calculate, maintain, and use critical metrics to drive continuous improvement, identify trends, and draw conclusions

Assist with Cleaning & Sanitization validations for products and equipment

Maintain lab equipment and calibrations

Complete Failure Investigations and properly document Out of Specification results

Support implementation and rollout of Global Quality Standards and local procedures

Provide product and raw materials micro release using SAP system

Provide support to facility to resolve nonconformance issues and identify corrective and preventive actions

Perform laboratory quality checks, controls, and media preparation following laboratory practices

The position does require flexibility to work on weekends and shift work so as to best meet the facility’s needs and support projects

Provides operator C&S, Micro Awareness, Swabbing, and Aseptic Sampling training to technicians.

Train chemists, microbiologists, and temporary laboratory personnel in Micro-related techniques using QMICs and SOPs.

Support development and implement plant-wide Microbiological Control Program

Support, maintain and apply the SPC system to drive CI, identify trends and provide conclusions.

Assists in the Control Point Monitoring program at the site.

Approve raw materials shipments and ensure Raw Material Purchasing Specification is met on the CoA’s.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors of Science in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, or related field

1 years of practical microbiology laboratory experience

Knowledge of general laboratory equipment (such as incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, and water baths)

Practical knowledge of laboratory working environment is required through job experience or college classwork

Solid understanding and practical Experience with excellent laboratory practices (GLP’s)

Ability to conduct failure investigations

Must understand basic lab safety and chemical waste disposal

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range $60,400.00 – $90,500.00 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

Paid Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid sick leave on January 1st of each year

Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
