Phlebotomist

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Overview In this position, you will be accurately
identifying patient information, collecting blood samples, processing
samples, and working within our Hospital LIS system as defined by
Mercys Policies & Procedures. This position requires the ability to
multi-task, display strong positive intra and interdepartmental
communication, problem solving, and a strong attention to detail. In
addition to assisting the laboratory staff with collecting and testing
of quality samples, additional Key Draws blood from patients, processes
specimens and performs administrative duties as required. Work at other
Mercy facilities performing the same functions, as required. Work
alternate shifts, weekends and holidays as needed to adequately provide
services. Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Responsibilities Responsibilities will be: Proficiently collect other
samples as indicated including throat swabs, MRSA swabs, urine samples,
heel sticks, finger sticks, blood cultures and blood bank specimens.
Assure specimen integrity by using aseptic technique and following
appropriate procedures. Provides patient instruction in the collection
and handling of personally collected specimens. Possess the ability to
assess patient response to procedure and interact with the patient at a
level that is understandable and comfortable for the patient. Performs
specialized sample collections including breath alcohol testing, random
urine drug and Glucose Tolerance Testing. Maintain a well-rounded
competency of all specimen collection procedures within the laboratory.
Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Prior
phlebotomy experience desired. Experience as a Paramedic, EMT, CNA
and/or MA helpful. Certification/Licensure Phlebotomy Certification
preferred Special Physical Demands The Special Physical Demands are

regularly required to stand; walk; bend over; use hands to finger,
handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Good
eye/hand coordination and close vision required. Frequent color vision,
depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Occasional distance vision
and peripheral vision. Frequently carry items from 10-25 lbs. and push a
cart greater than 50 lbs. Able to push over 100lbs occasionally. Culture
