Discover Impactful Work:
Provides line-level management coordination of resources and work schedules for laboratory activities. Oversees daily operations and assists in preparation and implementation of company policies, quality systems and training programs. Ensures that projects are completed in a timely manner so that company revenues are met and clients are satisfied with the quality and turnaround time of work being performed. Ensures that laboratory staff continues to be developed to keep pace with department goals and growth.
A day in the life:
Manages all operational aspects within the laboratory in relation to automated platforms. Coordinates with PPD lab sites to streamline and unify automation efforts. Serves as a technical resource for different departments. Plans, directs, and implements improvements in systems, processes, and procedures for the unit to increase efficiency, productivity, and quality in the laboratory
Manages and directs work responsibilities of staff to meet departmental key process improvements (KPIs) such as quality initiatives and turn around time (TAT)
Oversees daily operations in the laboratory with respect to laboratory automation onboarding, deployment, training, and troubleshooting instrumentation
Participates in client communications regarding project definitions and expectations, technical information exchanges, and discussions of project status as needed.
Provides leadership and mentoring to junior-level automation team members in order to improve their technical expertise and scientific knowledge. May recommend candidates for hiring, termination; prepares and conducts performance appraisals and salary reviews, and applies company policies.
Assists R&D management and Business Development in reviewing client proposals for technical feasibility and development options.
Maintains and monitors accreditation and inspection standards, keeping the laboratory in compliance with regulatory standards.
Hosts and facilitates regulatory inspections, audits (internal and external), assists the management in strategic planning, business development, and expansion initiatives.
Keys to Success:
Education and Experience:
Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 10 years) or equivalent and relevant combination of education, training, & experience
5 years of laboratory automation experience
2 years of leadership experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience with laboratory automation (benchtop automation, automated liquid handlers, fully automated workcells, etc.) including (but not limited to) hardware troubleshooting, liquid class and labware design and development, implementation plan creation and execution, and automated instrument programming (Hamilton Venus, TECAN Fluent Control and/or Thermo Momentum preferred)• Demonstrated knowledge of separation science and general chemistry• Demonstrated understanding of GxP requirements, PPD & client SOPs, ICH guidelines, USP requirements and FDA guidance• Proven analytical problem solving abilities• Technical writing skills• Effective communication and organizational skills• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities• Ability to train and mentor junior staff• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
