Director, Dental Externships

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Overview Marquette University School of
Dentistry (MUSoD) seeks qualified candidates for a newly created full
time participating (clinical track) faculty position in the Department
of Community Dental Sciences to serve as Director, Dental Externships.
The Director has primary responsibility for developing, managing, and
enhancing externship opportunities for our dental students, ensuring
they gain practical, hands-on experience in a variety of clinical
settings throughout Wisconsin. Duties and Responsibilities Work with
department chair to design and implement a comprehensive externship
program that aligns with the schools educational goals and
accreditation standards. Identify and establish partnerships with dental
practices, hospitals, community health centers, and other relevant
organizations for externship placements. Develop externship guidelines,
policies, and procedures. Advise and assist students in selecting
appropriate externship sites. Conduct orientations and preparatory
sessions for students participating in externships. Monitor student
progress and provide support throughout the externship period. Ensure
all externship sites meet the schools standards for clinical education
and patient care. Approve preceptor candidates and provide regular
calibration of preceptors. Evaluate externship sites and student
performance though regular assessments and feedback. Maintain records
and documentation related to externships, ensuring compliance with
accreditation and regulatory requirements. Serve as the primary liaison
between the dental school, externship sites, and students. Foster strong
relationships with external partners to enhance and expand externship
opportunities. Communicate regularly with faculty and administrative
staff to coordinate externship activities. It is the policy of Marquette

QUALIFICATIONS: Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Qualified
applicants must have: DMD/DDS degree from a US or Canadian dental school
recognized by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation, or a
comparable international degree. A current, valid license to practice
dentistry in the State of Wisconsin, or be eligible and obtain a regular
dental license or faculty license in the State of Wisconsin by date of
hire. Current CPR certification. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities Previous experience in program development and management.
Previous experience in academic administration or in a similar role.
Knowledge of accreditation standards and requirements for dental
