Department Statement
Colgate University is seeking an Arts Facilitator to support and amplify the Universitys Arts, Creativity, and Innovation Initiative, which aims to better integrate the arts into both the academic curriculum and campus life. Each year, the University plans and sponsors a vibrant array of programs in the visual, performing, literary, and media arts. Reporting to the Associate Dean of the Faculty, the Arts Facilitator will partner with a variety of stakeholders to deepen the impact of these programs across campus.
Accountabilities
Strategic Planning with academic arts programs (including visual arts, creative writing, film and media studies, museum studies, music, theater and dance) and other arts-related campus enterprises to set and realize strategic goals.
Relationship Building: cultivate partnerships with regional arts organizations and academic institutions to co-sponsor arts events, and create new opportunities for Colgate students, faculty, and staff.
Outreach: develop audiences for the arts at Colgate on campus, online, and in surrounding communities.
Communication: maintain a calendar of major arts events, to be published in printed publicity materials and on the Colgate arts website. Enhance the social media presence of Colgates arts programs. Assist arts programs with event documentation and website maintenance.
Coordination: facilitate communication among the various stakeholders in the Arts, Creativity, and Innovation Initiative. Organize regular stakeholder meetings to plan upcoming arts events and identify fruitful collaborations or resource-sharing opportunities.
Programming and Event Support: help plan and execute Colgates annual Arts, Creativity, and Innovation Weekend, as well as other major arts events throughout the year.
Administrative Support for the Arts, Creativity, and Innovation Steering Committee, the Colgate Arts Council (which funds arts events at Colgate), and other campus arts initiatives.

Requirements

Professional Experience/ Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a creative or administrative role in an academic or artistic environment
  • Experience with social media marketing, web design, and/or graphic design
  • Experience with audience development, or related forms of community outreach and engagement
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, which can be applied to keep complex projects on track
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in a creative or administrative role in an academic or artistic environment
  • Experience programming arts events
  • Understanding of creative processes, and enthusiasm for supporting a range of artistic visions across a variety of genres and forms of expression
  • Experience working with faculty and students on creative projects in an academic environment
Education
  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A graduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent work in the arts is considered a plus
Certifications
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends
