Overview

The Government and Public Sector (“GPS”) FP&A Assistant Director will report to the GPS Finance team and have relationships across the GPS Finance & Accounting organization as well as connections to firm Finance and relevant GPS stakeholders.

The opportunity

In this role your primary responsibility will be to serve as a finance subject matter resource to the GPS Service Line leaders and GPS Finance leadership, focused on Service Line support to the GPS Industry. You will oversee preparation of annual financial plan inputs and be responsible for preparation of routine financial analysis and interpretation of financial results, report commentaries, and cost and gross margin analysis for a particular Service Line (SL), Sub Service Line (SSL) or Competency. The role supports finance leadership for the industry in identification of areas requiring further analysis and recommendations for corrective action. This role establishes a trusted relationship with their client, understanding their needs and teams with other Finance team members to bring best in class analytical support, functional expertise and reporting solutions. This role provides critical thinking on business direction, operating performance and financial results. This position is active in the financial planning processes; identifies business trends; recommends courses of action; and may lead or participate in the implementation of advances in technology and software to meet changing business needs. They may also manage the FP&A function for a business segment within GPS.

Your key responsibilities

Preparation of budget templates for designated SL or SSL including first level modelling of plan inputs. Coordination of planning timelines for the GPS Industry SLs to ensure all required plan inputs are captured in the system within the required time frame.

Advises SL leadership on achieving plan during forecast process and throughout the year, assessing resources and deployment challenges, as well as other drivers, using historical results/trends to assess potential outcomes achievable.

Manage SL reporting suite making appropriate use of GPS and firm reporting tools and R&A teams to ensure up to date packages are maintained.

Proactively identify analyses to determine causes of performance deviations from expectations (e.g., profitability, inventory levels, realization, utilization, staffing levels, and SL related indirect expense controls, and cash collections) and suggest course correcting actions.

Support Region SL FA in delivering ad hoc financial advice to SL/CBS leadership that supports strategic discussions and also lead inquiries received from the business on event-specific triggers.

Provide data and interpretation of financial results via written communications and oral presentations.

Communicate with established networks within GPS, commercial, and any other interested stakeholders to resolve open issues.

Develop and implement new procedures to achieve efficient and effective operation of finance-related processes.

Provide active support and participation in task forces, initiatives and projects.

Investigate capabilities of software upgrades to improve reporting and analysis.

Partner across GPS FP&A to ensure all plan inputs are properly reflected within GPS’s CAS compliant indirect rates on an ongoing basis – prior to the start of the year and then ongoing throughout the year as actual performance is reported and forecasts are updated.

Play a key role in managing SL overhead rate performance, consistent with CAS compliance requirements.

Implement planning approaches that will facilitate the achievement of strategic and operational goals. Utilize the planning process and related communications to achieve alignment of priorities; analyze and challenge Plans, highlighting key issues, opportunities and provide remedial recommendations.

Support financial scenario modeling for leadership, providing recommended solutions/outcomes within a range of options, in support of enterprise management

Experience

A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or other related business field

A minimum of 7-10 years of relevant (e.g., accounting, finance) experience in FP&A and government contracting environments (ideally both)

Knowledge of FAR Part 31 and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and other regulatory Experience with Deltek Costpoint

High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel, Word, Power Point

Working knowledge of SAP and Essbase are a plus

Experience participating in accounting system audits by DCAA

Experience interfacing with and supporting development of forward pricing rates

Skills and attributes for success

Understanding of CAS-compliance in indirect rate structures and ability to guide stakeholders on proper cost charging

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and with external auditors

Strong understanding of professional service organizations and the drivers of services revenue

Develop accurate financial budgets and be able to communicate reasons for variances to budget or prior year

Able to prepare and present accurate restatements or pro-forma analysis as business needs change

What we offer

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $103,700 to $193,900. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $124,400 to $220,400. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
