Job Summary: Assist in providing a well-organized, smooth functioning media center environment in which teachers and students can take full advantage of available resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

– Maintain media center inventory and electronic database
– Perform check in and check out functions of all media center materials and equipment as well as processing overdue notices
– Process shipments and invoices as appropriate
– Answer phone and route incoming calls appropriately
– Assist with opening and closing the media center including turning on all equipment, running reports, etc.
– Set up displays, bulletin boards, etc. 
– Supervise parent volunteer(s) working in the media center
– Reshelf books, periodicals, etc., keeping all areas neat and orderly
– Perform shelf reading on a regular basis
– Perform minor book repairs; prepare books for rebinding
– Maintain confidentiality and loyalty to employer
– Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the building media specialist or principal. 
– Performs other duties as assigned.
– Regular and consistent attendance.
– Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.

Qualifications:

– High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
– Additional related media training desirable but not required. 
– Knowledge of library media programs
– Computer keyboarding skills, secretarial and clerical skills
– Ability to operate office machines such as computer, copier, and fax machine
– Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment
– Proficient computer and document skills.
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
