Job Overview

The Construction Quality Manager plans, directs, and coordinates all quality control activities. The position ensures all construction activities, processes, and procedures comply with contracts, project specifications and company standards in construction-related work. Conducts audits and determines acceptability of all in-process and completed work.

Primary Responsibilities

Work closely with the Company Safety Team to ensure safety and quality work hand-in-hand.

Provide quality leadership and oversight to Operations Team (Project Managers, Craft Leadership and Craft workers) to ensure quality procedures and policies are understood and followed.

Set annual goals around quality initiatives (such as reducing re-work) and provide metrics, trends and follow up initiatives for continuous improvement. Analyze trends and develop plans to correct negative quality results.

Develop, communicate, and implement project quality plans including Critical Activity Points (CAP). Design construction work plans, pre-activity plans, and Inspection and Testing Plans (ITPs).

Design, implement, and record quality checklists.

Manage & coordinate quality testing and inspections.

Audit field quality control documentation and maintain company quality records.

Identify current and potential quality risks in all construction operations.

Develop and implement quality control training for field craft employees and supervisors.

Develop, build and maintain client relationships.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Required Qualifications and Skills

A 2 or 4-year college degree in construction management, engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience.

5 years’ experience in civil construction and 3 years’ experience in construction or industrial quality control/quality assurance.

Understanding of construction means and methods.

Working knowledge of construction industry codes, such as MnDOT Standard Specifications, ACI, AWS, ASME, etc.

Ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications.

Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.

A professional demeanor and excellent communication and teamwork skills.

MnDOT Concrete Strength Tester

MnDOT Grading and Base Tester, Grading & Base Inspector

U of M Erosion/Sediment Control Site Management.

State and federal DOT and USACE specifications.

Work Environment

A combination of the traditional office workspace and construction sites. Construction work is conducted outdoors on rough terrain. There is constant exposure to various weather conditions typical in the states where the work is performed, including noise, dust, and other materials. The work environment is in areas where heavy equipment, power tools and traffic are present. There is exposure to heights up to 50 feet and depths of up to 80 feet in this construction work environment. Travel is frequent from the office to construction sites.

The physical demands will vary depending on the work environment and will often change in real time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to input information. Frequently reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, twist, crouch, or crawl, talk and hear, and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Frequent exposure to high noise levels. The employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time while using a keyboard. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. They are occasionally required to lift, carry, push, pull, and reach overhead materials up to 20 pounds, along with frequent gross manipulation using their hands. The visual requirements include demonstrating or having vision corrected to 20/20.
