Avera is currently seeking a highly motivated Director of Security and Emergency Management

As Director of Security and Emergency Management, coordinate various activities between hospital personnel, vendors, law enforcement agencies, and other personnel.

Job Summary

Manage and oversee security, communications and emergency preparedness programs in order to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and personnel in accordance with all regulating bodies (Joint Commission, OSHA, EPA, FDA, DOT, etc.). This person acts as the liaison with associated federal, state and local regulatory and licensing agencies. The Director has the authority to intervene whenever conditions exist that pose an immediate threat to life or health, or pose a threat of damage to equipment or buildings. Responsible for the management and supervision of security and emergency management personnel. Manages and supervises on a day-to-day basis the overall operation of security and emergency management services for Avera McKennan hospital and associated hospitals and clinics in the Sioux Falls market.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; designing and implementing policies and processes; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university, or a minimum of 10 years’ experience in security/emergency management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

This position requires a valid driver’s license and that the employee is insurable by the Avera Health automobile liability insurance carrier.
