Summary
The System Integration Data Scientist will support developing analytical tools and assumptions for system-wide planning (load forecasting, customer programs, transmission planning, distribution planning, resource planning), and develop expertise in the performance of generation resources, including renewable resources. This role will be instrumental in developing integrated models, managing data environments, leveraging advanced analytics, and align data to support SRP’s advancement to integrated system planning. This role will collaborate with various departments to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of the integrated planning processes and contribute to the achievement of strategic goals. Extracts knowledge and insights from high volume, high dimensional data in order to investigate complex business problems through a range of data preparation, modeling, analysis and/or visualization techniques, which may include the use of advanced statistical analysis, algorithms, predictive modeling, experimentation and pattern recognition to create solutions that enable enhanced business performance.
What Youll Do
• Collect and analyze data associated with resource performance including renewable generation performance, carbon/water intensity, battery metrics, system variability analysis. Develop tools to share that information across SRP.
• Consulting with business units to identify and gather requirements for potential data science, data engineering or data visualization projects specifically as it pertains to integrating various planning software/tools across planning organizations.
• Assist in evaluating various planning software and application development packages within the Transmission, Distribution, and Resource Planning organizations, providing recommendations based on departmental current & future needs.
• Develop a data management warehouse to enhance information transfer efficiency among collaborative planning departments. This includes designing data collection, cleaning, and processing of databases.
• Create dashboards and data visualizations to clearly communicate findings and insights from large datasets to non-technical stakeholders.
• Coordinating technical interactions between information technology groups on data environment and project matters.
• Analyze data sources, gather, and transform data into formats that are useful for analytics.
• Present results through presentations, documentation, roadshows, and visualizations.
• Serve as an expert resource in Data Science tools and techniques, including tools such as Dataiku, SQL, Python, R, PowerBi, Snowflake, etc. Proficient in SQL for querying databases and managing large datasets.
• Researching & piloting innovative ideas, testing & evaluating new technologies and software.
• Occasional travel to represent SRP with industry groups, customers, and regulatory and political bodies.
What It Takes To Succeed
• Experience with power system planning, operations, and economics is preferred.
• Preferred education in applied math, data science, economics, engineering, or IT.
• Knowledge of best practices for data management and architecture, and reporting.
• Knowledge of data integration approaches and SRP’s power system planning tools.
• Positive attitude and excels in a team/collaborative environment.
• Ability to navigate and thrive in situations with ambiguous or unclear requests, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and adaptability.
Experience
Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years experience at Level 1 and demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of 3 years experience at Level 2, is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.
Education
Completion of a Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.
Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
