RATE OF PAY: Starting at $22.66/hr. (Depending on Qualifications)
WORK DAY and WORK WEEK:
Per current working agreement between Berlin Water Works and Local #1444. Must take call time when requested by management, weekends and emergencies. This position requires that the employee is available to work overtime when called upon by supervisory personnel.
REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS (INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
In addition to all other duties required of current union job title (Grade No.s I, and II), Minimum requirement is a High School diploma or equivalent. Must be able to pass a basic aptitude test.
– Must be willing to obtain and hold a New Hampshire Grade I water distribution system operator license within 1 year of filling this job position
– Must be willing to obtain and hold a New Hampshire Grade I water Treatment system operator license within two years of filling this job position.
Must hold or be able to obtain a Class B New Hampshire Commercial Drivers license. Must be able to communicate and establish good relationships with all employees, the general public and agents of local, state and federal agencies. Must be able to operate earthmoving equipment. Working knowledge in the field of water supply and distribution is a bonus. Must be willing to learn and train in all aspects of the Duties within the Berlin Water Works such as, but not limited to: tracing and locating water lines, reading maps, records, letters, reports, prepare maps, records, and reports. The individual will also be required to learn how to operate the Berlin Water Works Ammonoosuc Water Treatment Plant, the Brown Farm Well, and enter data and process reports as needed. The individual will also be required to enter into the on-call rotation schedule.
The individual must be willing to learn to have the ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints and technical manuals. Have a general knowledge of personal computer hardware and software including familiarity with the use of various software applications including word-processing, electronic spreadsheets and data bases. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written direction and reports. Ability to write reports and update databases.
ENVIRONMENT, WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL EFFORT:
This position may require significant physical labor in disagreeable elements both indoors and outdoors as working conditions require in all types of weather. Substantial physical dexterity, strength, stamina and the use of all limbs and most fingers is required for climbing ladders, reaching, balancing, and kneeling, lifting and using hand held tools. This includes the ability to lift up items weighing up to 75 pounds. Employee is subjectto be called out to respond to emergencies after normal working hours, and may be required to work evening and/or weekend hours. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to a Berlin Water Works General Foreman.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
When on call, the position can be responsible for the direct supervision of one or more Berlin Water Works Department employees in carrying out its duties and responsibilities.
EXAMPLES OF WORK (Illustrative only):
– Performs a variety of technical duties in the construction, operation, repair / maintenance performed by Berlin Water Works.
– Plans, schedules and implements construction and maintenance operations in the various required work areas in an efficient manner and to high standards.
– Requisition of supplies for projects
– Provide information, both oral and written, as requested by Berlin Water Works General Foreman.
– Performs related work and work of a lesser skill or responsib lity level as required.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of a high school education or equivalent. Valid state drivers license, Commercial Drivers License Class B with air brake endorsement is preferred, but must be willing to obtain.
OTHER TRAINING, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, and tools. Skill in the use of carpentry tools, materials and equipment. The ability to follow detail oral and written instructions, technical manuals, diagrams and electrical schematics.
