Job Overview:
The Ultrasonographer performs ultrasound examinations to assist in the diagnosis or treatment of disease; follows standards set forth by the ARDMS. Performs imaging and related procedures in the following areas; Abdomen, OB/Gyn and small parts. The Ultrasonographer demonstrates knowledge of the human structure and functions, principles of sonic energy. Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Follows all established Ultrasound, Radiology and Hospital Policies and Procedures and is proficient exams both within and outside of the Department.
Qualifications:
Required:
Certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) required
Successful completion of a comprehensive course In diagnostic medical ultrasound.
Two years as staff Ultrasonographer preferred.

Essential Functions:
Obtains, reviews and integrates pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimum diagnostic results.
Performs diagnostic procedures and records anatomical, pathological and/or physiological data for interpretation.
Records and processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedures for presentation
Records and processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedures in the Radiology Information system.
Provides patient education related to sonographic imaging and promotes principles of good health
Evaluates static and dynamic images and recordings of available data for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded
Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of the patient during procedures
Corroborates patient s clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner
Prepares patient for procedures by providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety
Selects and operates ultrasonic equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results.
Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort Immobilized patients as required for appropriate examination
Determines ultrasonic frequency and transducers for established protocols. Core Competencies: – Exercises precautions in patient applications, respecting the biological effects between ultrasound and tissue
Provides practical instruction for students and/or other healthcare professionals Core Competencies: – Participates in the department s quality assessment and improvement plan. Maybe responsible for specific quality control duties in the assigned area
May be responsible for control of inventory car and control of specific ultrasound items. May purchase supplies for area Core Competencies: – Pursues appropriate continuing education to maintaining credentials and skills and employment
