Overall Summary:
The Engineer – Advanced Grid is a collaborative and integral part of the Advanced Grid Solutions (AGS ) team who performs a broad range of research and integration projects for new technologies/pilots. These projects will enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of proposed grid modernization and high-profile customer driven projects.This position will support the Director of AGS and team to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes. Assists with enhancing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of proposed pilot projects and customer-driven, high-profile work.
Location: Hybrid (see below), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at Woods Run Complex
Job Responsibilities:
Support the Grid Modernization Lab by providing technical and engineering support
Develop specs for inverters and various other gird modernization technologies
Develop scopes of work and cost estimations for AGS project
Research and engage industry to develop concept papers and formal application documentation
Create and develop job aids to support data analytics, cost estimations, power system analytics, and other scope items as needed
Learn and develop experience with modeling tools and appropriate approach to solving grid edge problems
Develop and write white papers and industry engagement pieces to drive education and training methods
Work with appropriate stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.
Support other team members in AGS that including creating long term load forecasts to submit to leadership for demonstrating strategic implementation and execution for system improvement
Experience in Short or Long Term (Load, Wind, and/or Solar generation) forecasting using advanced analytics
Provide technical support for various funding opportunities
Education/Experience:
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or information Systems or a related discipline required.
Advanced degree(s) a plus.
Two (2) or more years of related experience required.
Experience in utility industry strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications include:
Proven experience as an experienced engineer with significant background in DERs
Experience in contributing to the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products.
An understanding of systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices.
Technical knowledge of current software protocols, and Internet standards
Software troubleshooting experience.
Application support experience with utility software
Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems,
Competence with testing, flowchart, and data mapping tools and procedures,
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Ability to support and maintain relationships withIT, Regulatory, Customer Service, and Operations
Strong attention to detail.
Adaptability, flexibility, and comfortable to change
Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage various priorities.
Ability to multi-task.

Scope:
Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs, and reporting. Typically accountable for managing ones own time and workflow. Responsible for using prescribed guidelines to analyze situations and solve problems. Work is typically of moderate complexity, requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Countines to build knowledge base and develop capabilities by partnering with more experienced staff as needed. w
Decision Impact:
Problems and issues faced are vague but may be recognizable based on past experience. Accountable for some direct level of reasoning and decision making in straightforward situations based on precedents.
Hybrid Work
Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
Storm Roles
