DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Manager Corporate Tax effectively manages a team of tax professionals, including assigning and reviewing work, providing mentorship and guidance, and coordinating the delivery of work product in a timely and efficient manner.
Manage the federal and state/local tax compliance process to ensure accurate and timely filing of tax returns.
Manage the GAAP process on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis including tax footnotes and disclosures in accordance with relevant US GAAP and other authoritative guidance.
Manage the STAT process on a quarterly and annual basis including tax footnotes and disclosures in accordance with SSAP 101.
Analyze and prepare tax calculations and supporting documents or reconciliations relating to tax provisions, return to provision analysis, GAAP and STAT financials, and audit footnotes.
Stay up to date on changes to tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
Liaise with external auditors to provide support.
Support IRS and state audit responses.
Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures, automation of tax compliance, and tax accounting/financial reporting.
Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
Assist the VP, Director of Tax and Other Tax Manager with tax duties as well as other duties that are performed within the department.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in accounting or finance (MS in Taxation is a plus) with CPA preferred.
6-7 years experience.
Understanding of GAAP tax accounting guidelines and provisions with a strong preference given for STAT tax accounting and guidelines knowledge.
Experience preparing and reviewing Federal, State, and Local Income Tax Returns.
Strong preference given for experience in mergers and acquisitions, tax basis balance sheet, and preparing unitary and multi-state and local income tax returns.
Strong Excel skills and the ability to create and/or modify complex formulas and have proficiency with all other Microsoft Office Programs.
Proficient in OneSource suite of products preferred.
Proficient in Sage Fixed Asset Software preferred.
Ability to organize, self-prioritize, and be a self-starter in a dynamic, extremely fast-paced environment with demanding internal and external deadlines. This role often requires the individual to work in a team environment, but also able to complete tasks independently with minimal supervision.
Possess a results-driven work ethic with a willingness to help wherever needed.
Previous experience leading others preferred
Independence has implemented a “Hybrid” model which consists of Associates working in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) and remotely 2 days a week (Monday & Friday). This role is designated as a role that fits into the “Hybrid” model. While associates may work remotely on our designated remote days, the work must be performed in the Tri-State Area of Delaware, New Jersey or Pennsylvania
