SUMMARY
The Sanitation Manager will be responsible for leading, managing, training, and developing the Sanitation, Pest Control and Waste Management programs/systems for the facility with a continuous improvement focus. He/she will provide direction and coordinate all responsibilities for the Plant Services department which includes Safety, Food Safety, Training, Engagement, Performance, Recycling/Chemical/Waste Usage Management, Budget and Cost Management etc. The position reports to the Quality Manager but also will manage a set of matrix relationships within facility to Production and Supply Chain, and will influence senior management on alignment of strategies, annual objectives, and project plans. Reporting in to this position is Sanitation Supervisor and leaders, as well as a sanitation team of approximately 60 skilled hourly associates, crewed primarily on second and third shifts, to provide sanitation services within a 230,000 square foot frozen food manufacturing facility.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1.30% -Develop, implement and continually improve documented/standardized/comprehensive sanitation and pest control programs. Develops and implements an integrated Pest Control Program.
2.30% – Selects, develops and supervises a crew of 60 skilled hourly associates, scheduled to cover 24/7 timeframe.
3.15% – Collaborates with Quality Assurance, Production, Supply Chain, Engineering, Maintenance, and Sanitation to develop functional sanitation objectives and plant metrics.
4.10% – Collaborates with cross-functional teams in the communications of, and compliance with, Sanitation policy, expectations and requirements.
5.10% – Prepares and manages annual Sanitation budget, including direct and indirect labor. Orders necessary equipment and chemicals via the SAP platform, with a focus on cost control.
6.5% – Leads plant inspections and audits to verify plant compliance to Pepperidge Farm, FDA and Safe Quality Foods Institute (SQF) regulations and standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides technical expertise and leadership in Sanitation, SSOPs, Sanitary Design, Pest Control, CIP and COP systems, Chemical Usage, Sanitation Technology, Waste Management, Recycling, Confined Space, Allergen Cleaning & Testing,
Training, FSMA Regulations, Preventive Controls and Risk Assessment.
2. Enforce guidelines for Plant Services employees for sanitation/food safety programs ensuring compliance with all company and regulatory product food safety standards, quality standards, sanitation standards, employee safety and environmental standards. Ensure that Good Manufacturing Practices, Allergen Control, Environmental Monitoring, and Kosher requirements
are followed. As well as making sure all Plant Services employees follow companys safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment where required, meeting all safety objectives set up for the department.
3. Develops and implements SSOPs drives continuous improvement ini iatives while keeping abreast on new technology, methods and regulations relating to food plant sanitation methods, chemicals, and technology. Provides coaching, training and
troubleshooting for Plant Services personnel.
4. Oversees the scheduling of a crew of 60 skilled hourly associates performing sanitation tasks associated with production demands and Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS). Develops and implement master sanitation schedule and monitors performance of the established tasks against the schedule with a focus on continuous improvement of percent completion.
Plant Services crew is scheduled to cover a 24-hour operation and all three shifts must be staffed and be provided oversight and guidance. Primary sanitary duties for Downingtown are performed during the P.M. Shift.
5.Prepares and manages annual Sanitation budget, including direct and indirect labor. Approves orders for necessary supplies, equipment and chemicals for the entire plant via the SAP platform, with a focus on cost control.
6. Collaborates with a cross functional team at the plant of Quality Assurance, Production, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Maintenance to meet functional sanitation needs. Attends weekly Operations Management meetings to maintain good communication. Is organized, has good notetaking skills, and utilizes Outlook Calendar for meetings. Provides regular reporting of MSS and project work to the plant management team.
7. Coordinate and oversee all outside vendors as they relate to the Plant Services Department; Pest Control Technicians, Chemical Vendors, Production supplies, Contractors for building and grounds and Waste Management, etc.
8. Key member of teams to ensure successful SQF, Kosher, State, Federal, and Internal audits. Member of the plant HACCP team and trained on understanding and meeting needs for Preventive Controls. Full understanding and implementation of Monitoring, Verification and Validation standards as well as Corrective Actions within the Food Safety Plan for the Downingtown plant, primarily focused on sanitation activities and Allergen Control.
9. Assumes responsibility for the Quality System requirements defined in 4.01 of the Pepperidge Farm, Inc. – Downingtown
Plant Quality Procedures Manual. In the absence of the Sanitation Manager or any position within the staff, the appropriate responsibilities will be completed by utilizing the organizational chart to cover critical food safety responsibilities.
10. Identifies, Trains, and develops the leadership structure of the department to best facilitate corporate succession requirements and ensure a strong talent supported department. Champions leader and team member growth.
11. Ensures adherence to sanitation validation protocols and verification testing. Provides support to plant quality in areas of micro validation and testing. Supports the corporate Environmental Monitoring program
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required
4 years Leadership (Supervisor, Lead, Manager) experience in a manufacturing environment required
Preferred Requirements
Bachelors or Associates Degree is preferred
5 years Leadership(Supervisor, Lead, Manager) experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred
HACCP training in the past is preferred
Knowledge of Master Sanitation practices.
Knowledge and general acumen of applicable regulatory standards (FDA, SQF).
Ability to evaluate, develop, standardize, and implement Master Sanitation schedules and Pest Control programs.
Computer proficiency to navigate through SAP applications, budget spreadsheets and general Microsoft
systems.
