The Department of Psychiatry – Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC) – University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) has an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Research Assistant to work in clinical pharmacology and alcohol disorder treatment research./This is a contractual position./ The Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC) is an internationally renowned research center, which is dedicated to providing treatment to patients with serious mental illness, educating professionals and consumers about psychiatric disorders, and conducting basic and translational research into the manifestations, causes, and treatment of psychiatric disorders. The selected candidate will perform duties that support the departments mission. Primary Duties: Conduct informed consent procedures. Assist in testing the effects of a medication on a metabolic pathway in individuals with alcohol use disorders. Conduct study assessments to include diagnostic assessment, structured interviews, cognitive testing, and questionnaires. Assist with neuro-imaging procedures and collection of related data. Work with a research team to coordinate study activities. Check and enter data. Collect and transport biological specimens or materials as instructed. Perform other duties as assigned. Education:Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Biology, Neuroscience or other scientific field of study related to the research of the clinical setting. Experience:Prior clinical research experience working in a biological or behavioral research program and/or hands on research experience with patient populations preferred. Other:May consider a combination of directly related experience and education. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to understand both verbal and written communications. Ability to network with and provide information to key groups and individuals. Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to use a consultative approach to resolve issues in area of responsibility.
