Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities: – Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, decontaminate, and update patient information. – Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. – Properly explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collections (e.g., urine, fecal) in a clear but courteous manner. – Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. – Fully understand all physicians orders. – Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. – Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. – Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. – Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperature. – Follow procedures for transporting samples to maintain specimen integrity. – Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. – Attend annual department trainings. – Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

This is a fully on-site position in Alexandria, Virginia.
Work Environment
Patient Service Center (PSC). Large location. Expected to stand most of the shift. Specialties include Pediatrics. Will work both with a team and alone. First week is training. 8am-4:30pm Monday-Friday, no weekends. 30-40 draws required daily.
