Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Monitor Tech is responsible for measuring and monitoring EKG waveforms. They communicate information to nursing and clinicians in an effective and efficient manner utilizing hospital policy. The Monitor Tech is critical to contributing to
Job Summary:
Observe electrocardiography patterns of hospitalized patients to detect abnormalities in the heart rate and/or rhythm; documents and reports changes in the rate/ rhythm of the cardiac patterns to the professional nursing staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited high school or GED equivalency examination.
Experience: Previous telemetry experience desirable.
Individuals must successfully complete a basic telemetry class showing competency in basic EKG interpretation within 90 days of employment. Individuals with previous experience in telemetry can test out of EKG competency in lieu of attending a telemetry class.

Knowledge/Skills: Skill in English grammar and spelling. Neat, legible handwriting. Ability to electronically file information in patient records. Excellent communication and computer skills. Ability to use office equipment, such as multi-line telephones, computer terminals and printers. Ability to pass telemetry technician training a must.

Essential Job Functions
• Provides continuous cardiac monitor observation.
• Informs nurses of essential information regarding equipment, changes in cardiac rhythm, and patient updates.
• Compiles patient data and report on a shift by shift basis.
• Takes care of the monitoring equipment and notification of bio-medical when equipment needs to be replaced or taken out of service for repairs.
