Director of Facilities and Engineering

Position Summary:
The Director of Facilities and Plant Engineering (D-FPE) oversees and directs the day-to-day operations of Engineering/Plant Operations, including facilities management, medical office building maintenance, construction projects, and equipment upgrades. The D-FPE assures the ongoing development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services and is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of a quality control program.

Qualifications:

Education:

– Bachelors Degree (BS) in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering requiredORmay substitute five (5) years of leadership experience.
– Masters Degree in field preferred.

Experience

– A minimum of five (5) years hospital maintenance experience is required.
– Previous maintenance supervisory experience preferred.
– Previous construction supervisory experience preferred.
– Knowledge of elementary principles of management required.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

– None required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

– Assess and communicate recommendations for utilization of space, space needs, equipment, personnel, and other resources as needed to meet patient needs and will maintain hospital plant and equipment in optimal condition.
– Works closely with the VP Facilities and Operations to assist new construction and renovation projects on campus to include: interpreting needs of hospital staff, design areas for functionality and optimal space use, development of budgets and justifications, supervision of contractors in the performance of their duties, and working directly with state and local authorities to assure compliance with applicable regulations.
– Perform new equipment and service coordination by evaluation, storage, installation and initiation of new services/equipment and oversee and manage all on-site inspections, assisting inspectors and surveyors in the performance of their duties; provide reports as required in follow-up to surveys, inspections and audits.
– Interview and evaluate the qualifications and competencies of staff and design orientation that integrates employees needs as well as hospital and department requirements.
– Adhere to and ensure department complies with all employee health and infection control policies and OSHA requirements as well as ensure compliance with all local, state, federal law, DNV standards, applicable national organizations, and hospital policies.
– Work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, department heads, and members of executive leadership.
– Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Explorer and PowerPoint.
– Provide exemplary core customer service skills.
– Display strong organizational skills.
– Strong verbal and written communication skills.
– Ability to exercise independent judgment in emergency situations.
