Job Description

This position is responsible for performing routine engineering reviews, utilizing established rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines and unit supervisor or senior engineer assistance, of hazardous waste treatment, storage, or disposal facility operating license applications, to ensure compliance with Part 111, Hazardous Waste Management, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended (NREPA). In addition, this position, while utilizing established rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines, and unit supervisor or senior engineer assistance, performs routine engineering reviews of closure plans, post closure plans, and corrective action plans, and coordinates reviews from Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) staff and other agencies, for these projects. This position also drafts appropriate licenses or denials for the above referenced facilities and assists with financial assurance reviews. This position serves as an information source in EGLE for license applicants and the public, for assigned projects. This position must become familiar with the Waste Data System (WDS) database; therefore, the person must gain understanding in tracking hazardous waste facility permitting, closure, post closure, and corrective action work accomplishments in WDS. The position also carries out all activities in accordance with the Hazardous Waste Sections (HWS) Customer Service Policy and the Departments commitment to provide excellent customer service.

Two years of professional environmental engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer, including one year equivalent to Environmental Engineer 10.
