Role Summary

The International Development Director is the sole subject matter expert and thought leader in driving Alaska Air Group’s (AAG) global growth with a focus on delivering successful commercial outcomes. This high-visibility, cross-functional role is responsible for leading a diverse set of market development activities. As an individual contributor, this role reports to the division Vice President and as a key member of the loyalty, partnerships, international, and sales team, this matrixed position has considerable latitude and autonomy to deliver commercial outcomes.

Key Duties

Define long-term strategy and own cross-functional market development activities that allow Alaska Air Group to successfully deliver against network growth/restructuring strategies for a 12-24 month horizon.

Define required launch/optimization activities and ushers through to completion with a strong bias for action and collaborates with AAG leaders across both functional and strategic disciplines including regulatory, tax, slots, partnerships, sales, loyalty, and marketing.

Lead international task force meeting with key stakeholders. Sets effective agendas that are outcome oriented and efficient.

Is the market champion for AAG’s international commercial initiatives. Seen as the go-to person and a trusted partner.

Serve as the subject matter expert on Alaska Air Group’s global market positioning in a shifting competitive landscape. Deeply understands competition and effectively communicates where, why, and how Air Group is positioned to win.

Develop models and analyses, conducts internal and external research, and synthesizes learnings to support recommendations that drive change in support of strategic programs and transformation initiatives.

Provide input and feedback on commercial initiatives including pricing strategies, schedule design, selling via indirect and direct channels and other considerations related to the success of our international markets.

Responsible for managing key business intelligence tools that drive analysis and decision making across the division. Owns critical reporting related to Air Group’s international franchise.

Provide ad-hoc analysis and input as required in support of commercial planning decisions, company presentations, and internal/external communications.

Support the execution of special projects that impact market development activities including fleet planning, slots, strategic partnerships, and airport infrastructure planning.

Monitor airline industry and macro events and trends and determines implications to Air Group’s global strategy.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

10 years’ experience in functions related to business strategy, corporate strategy, management consulting, or related area.

Bachelor’s degree or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Excellent written, verbal, analytical, presentation, and negotiation skills.

Able and willing to travel up to 50% of the time to global destinations.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum age of 18.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

Airline Industry experience.

Excellent communicator across all levels within an organization providing clarity to complex concepts and solutions.

Demonstrated significant growth of sales in a region or business unit by driving cross-functional efforts.

Demonstrates a collaborative leadership style that motivates staff and encourages peak performance.

A self-motivated, personable, organized, and cooperative co-worker; supportive of team efforts and goals.

Able to adapt to an ever-changing, dynamic market environment and willing to work in a virtual environment.

Ability to think strategically and “outside the box”.

Salary Range

$168,300 – $260,700 / year

Total Target Compensation Range (incl. bonus & equity)

$207,126 – $319,854

Salary Details

The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We dont typically hire at the top of the range.
