We are seeking a Sr. Graphic Designer who will offer visual communication solutions for a range of strategic projects with responsibilities including creative design and overall creative concepts and production for the execution of projects. Will play a lead design role in collaboration with other creative staff and departmental stakeholders. The person in this position the ability to work collaboratively on creative projects, and have strong design skills and an aesthetic that demonstrates an understanding of current and emerging trends

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Creative and Brand for Johns Hopkins University, this Sr. Graphic Designer role is positioned in our central communications team with a dedicated book of work specific to Student Affairs. As such, you will have the opportunity to work alongside and collaborate with a diverse creative team of designers and creative roles that support communications projects across the University. With a dotted line to the Communications team in Student Affairs, you will receive Marketing Plans and project briefs to determine design solutions that help students have a successful and productive college experience and take advantage of everything JHU has to offer.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Work independently and in cross-functional groups on a variety of strategic communications projects that require creative problem-solving and concepts.
Take a lead design role on cross-functional teams, ensuring that all related print and digital design work is of the highest quality, and consistent, and supports the goals of the individual project.
Create a wide range of visual materials. Examples include graphics, signage, annual reports, ads, publications, branded collateral, social media graphics, event promotions, image creation, and motion graphics.
Direct photo shoots and illustration assignments.
Partner with editors, writers, web and video professionals, and others to develop holistic creative solutions.
Serve as a brand ambassador and communicate and educate Johns Hopkins colleagues on creative and brand tools and assets.
Work on multiple projects concurrently while meeting deadlines and following schedules.
Contribute to creative concept presentations to leadership and others.
Work to ensure proper balance of form and function in all materials.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience contributing to collaborative projects.
Experience designing within brand guidelines.
Ability to meet deadlines consistently.
Ability to work independently and in groups to offer design solutions to communications problems.
Understanding of production process; capable of taking design from concept to production.
Proven leadership to include motivating and enlisting buy-in for solutions and provide leadership to non-direct reports; must possess the ability to drive change and results.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to deal effectively with a broad spectrum of professionals and stakeholders.
Proven client relation skills.
Ability to lead projects within a complex and decentralized environment.
Attention to detail, highly organized, and excellent follow through.
Understanding of templated resource tools (Marq and Canva) or ability to learn quickly to get up to speed and act as a super user for the department.
Ability to multi-task and produce under pressure of multiple and conflicting deadlines.
Must be autonomous and able to self-manage, work independently, and set own priorities.
Strategic thinker is able to identify long-term opportunities and trends.
Proactive ability to find opportunities for and present recommendations to improve efficiency and enhance creative problem-solving support for the department.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or related field.
Four years of experience and a portfolio.
Proficiency on a Mac using Adobe Creative Suite and emerging technologies.

Starting Salary Range: $53,800 – $94,400 Annually ($77,250 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
