ABOUT THE ROLE
Safety Specialists work closely with field staff, clients and subcontractors, all levels of management, and personnel from external organizations during all phases of electric construction projects. Safety Specialists must be committed to ensuring adherence to safety-related policies, procedures, and regulations while developing positive professional relationships. This is a location-based position encompassing worksites throughout the assigned project area and requires varying amounts of travel.

Sturgeon Electrics powerline, or Transmission and Distribution (T&D) construction division provides a full range of capabilities related to transmission, distribution, and substation
This position will travel throughout the Central/Eastern region of WA and OR and occasional West Coast job sites. Safety Specialists are provided a company vehicle, gas card, and purchase card
Experience with electrical construction, transmission and distribution specifically, is a big plus.
Essential Functions
Perform ongoing site visits to observe and document safety behaviors and work conditions to ensure a safety focus throughout all phases of electric construction projects
Coordinate with Operations teams to create site-specific safety plans; actively participate in safety meetings to review job hazard analysis and hazard recognition tools
Participate in project kick off and progress meetings
Supporting client-specific safety requirements programs and ensure alignment and compliance between client expectations, company rules, and applicable safety regulations
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to environmental protection or occupational health and safety
Coach and mentor project site personnel regarding safety practices and behaviors on an ongoing basis
Conduct proactive behavior-based and quality-focused field safety observations and PPE hazard assessments
Partner with Safety, Safety Training & Operations teams to schedule or facilitate required employee trainings: New hire orientation, OSHA ETD Quarterly refresher training, Customer required training, Post-incident training as part of a Corrective Action Plan, and Participate in site-specific safety planning.
Conduct accident/injury investigations including root cause analyses
Provide support to Operations organization for incident case management and documentation steps
Follow-up with Operations organization to ensure completion of corrective actions for all accidents and incidents
Support company safety committees by assisting in assessment of safety performance trends, implementing process, and tool improvements
Regular and predictable attendance
Other duties as assigned
Essential functions of this position are to be performance at a Company-designated office or field location

ABOUT YOU
Qualifications (Level I)
Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) field roles is required
High school diploma or GED equivalent is required
Minimum of one (1) safety certification is preferred, examples include: Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Specialist in Safety and Health (SSH), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Undergraduate degree in Safety Management or related field preferred
