# Project Overview:

Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era. The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.

# Job Summary:

The Cranes & Rigging Superintendent is responsible for supervising and directing operations within the cranes & rigging discipline. #LI-CL1

# Major Responsibilities:

Manage rigging hardware, including rigging lofts and personnel.

Plan and oversee manual rigging (bull rigging) operations.

Support rigging training and qualification programs.

Conduct project specific training (Bull Rigging, Crane Operations, Rigging, etc.) as requested by Rigging Training Manager/Project Trainer Manager.

Evaluates craft training needs and makes recommendations to the rigging and training management team for consideration of additional program development or project support.

Audit project training programs and compliance.

Provide ES&H leadership to personnel assigned to their department, including but not limited to, preparation and implementation of safety procedures and leading Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings.

Manage all site cranes per process and procedure requirements regarding safe usage, site relocation, assembly/disassembly of telescopic RT-AT, and lattice boom crawler cranes, safe rig up and safe raising-lowering of long boom cranes, proper set up, proper usage and site ground bearing conditions regarding build out of earth and timber crane pads.

Manage site COEs (crane operator examiners) and crane operator qualification program, including crane operator certifications, state licenses, and medical certificates verifications.

Inspect site for unsafe conditions and practices and take appropriate corrective action to correct breaches.

Coordinate safety training and enforce safe work practices at all times in conjunction with the Environmental, Safety and Health Supervisor.

Champion the cause of ZERO Accident Philosophy. Ensure that Bechtel and local/national safety codes, requirements, and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility.

Review and approve subcontractor equipment/personnel mobilization and demobilization.

Plan the manpower and equipment required to execute the job.

Monitor the activities of craft to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules.

Interface with Industrial Relations for craft recruitment and training programs.

Coordinate with the General Foreman to hire craft labor to execute work.

Perform employee reviews and identify training and development opportunities for subordinate cranes & rigging personnel.

Review craft time records using established automated tools.

Responsible for the cost, schedule, and optimization of craft labor and maintaining the 90 day and four-week look ahead schedules for labor and equipment.

Prepare reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecasts.

Provide input to quantity tracking applications and report weekly installed quantities to Project Controls.

Responsible for implementing corporate project policies, procedures, and instructions within their assigned area(s) of operation.

Coordinate and implement established area operational plans.

Prepare material requisitions for tools and consumables and coordinate through procurement to obtain these materials.

Assist in performing construction testing as required.

Provide daily direction to crane operations General Foremans and Foremans in regard to safe crane operations and procedures.

Provide and dispatch site qualified crane operators to all site cranes.

Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.

# Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Must possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.

Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.

Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).

# Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be undertaken.

Experience in Government projects or power generating station construction is preferred.

Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.

Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.

Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.

Certified Crane Operator experienced as A/D director for all types of mobile cranes.

Ability to read and interpret crane manufactures operator’s manual and load charts.

Experienced in safe use and inspection of rigging hardware.

Ability to develop 3-week look ahead schedule regarding crane operations.

Monitor and track utilization of all site cranes.

‍Certified rigger/signal person, NCCCO, NCCCER, or equivalent.

Certified crane operator, NCCCO, NCCER, or equivalent.

Certified OSHA crane inspector.

Bechtel Certified Rigging Engineer (CRE) certification.

DOE ISMS experience.
