Heres how you can help. We are currently looking for an Editor to join our team and rise to the challenge of empowering service.

 

Position Highlights:

The Editor plays a key role in developing content for and supporting the production of Lions International print and digital publications, including LION Magazine and the Lions Blog. Responsibilities include researching, writing, editing and proofreading stories and other content. Additional duties include managing freelance writers and photographers, collaborating with internal subject matter experts and tacticians, and supporting the Senior Editor in the overall management of magazine operations.

What You’ll Do:

In collaboration with the Senior Editor, contribute to content strategy development, sourcing content for the magazine, blog and other communication channels that will advance the organization’s brand journalism efforts. Success includes engaging with subject matter experts throughout the organization and Lions in the field to uncover stories.

​​​​​​​Write engaging stories, blog posts and other copy that adheres to organizational brand and style guidelines and helps to raise awareness of Lions International, and encourage Lions, Leos and members of the public to take action.

Manage the work of freelancer writers, establishing and maintaining relationships, processing paperwork, assigning work and deadlines, and providing edits to initial story drafts for final approval by Senior Editor.

Establish and maintain photographer relationships, processing paperwork, and assigning work and deadlines.

Manage the digital publishing process, organizing all files and coordinating with our marketing operations team for posting.

Support our international network of more than 30 editors, providing required content to be published in all international editions, as well as offering guidance to ensure all editions adhere to the organization’s board policies related to the magazine.

Develop content and promotional strategies based on marketing analytics, such as site visit and click through rates; scans of QR codes in print; social media engagement for posts promoting the magazine.

Collaborate with the Senior Editor to streamline magazine operations and increase efficiencies, including, but not limited to managing the email and voicemail inbox, organizing story leads, and archiving published stories and blogs.

We’re Looking for Someone With:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience

​​​​​​​Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience working in a professional communications position.

Experience in the field of journalism such as news reporting, magazine work or freelance writing.
