As a Business Development Manager, you will travel to customer sites and meet with customers to gain a deep understanding of the customer’s business and challenges and actively monitor industry trends. You will work closely with customers, sales teams, and operations teams to identify technology-based needs and potential solutions. You will work with NPI Leads and delivery teams to scope and run development programs. You will apply your customer insights and market understanding to define commercial specifications, assess the value of solutions to the customers, help build program business cases, and represent the customer’s perspective to development teams. You will work with engineering on program plans and tradeoffs, work with sales and business teams for sales forecasts, and engage with product support, sales, and deployment teams to deliver commercial elements of the NPI programs. You will work closely with the MineStar Platform Requirements team to guide platform roadmaps and specifications enabling strong leverage of the platform into hauling technology solutions and releases. In this role, you must build relationships and partnerships with both internal teams and customers to define and quantify opportunities, set priorities, make good tradeoffs, and mitigate program risks to deliver an optimized solution.
What you will do:
• Work directly with customers to identify opportunities where technology could provide value – improved safety, productivity, or availability, reduce cost, or support sustainability.
• Gather and document voice of the customer (VOC) around potential solutions.
• Define and document commercial specifications for products and product enhancements.
• Quantify the value of solutions to customers.
• Build detailed business cases based on in depth market analysis to support the investment into programs.
• Prioritize opportunities.
• Ensure solution specifications are cascaded to and aligned with platform specifications and plans.
• Define solution roadmaps and collaborate with other solutions managers and platform teams to ensure that MineStar ecosystem roadmaps are aligned; breakdown roadmaps into tactical, executable steps.
• Contribute to overall mining technology strategies.
• Collaborate with technical teams on detailed product requirements and designs, working through tradeoffs to optimize the product and maximize value delivery.
• Participate in product design reviews and concept demonstrations
• Actively participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) programs representing the commercial workstream.
• Promote and foster strong partnerships with partner organizations internal to Caterpillar and external partners.

Data Gathering & Analysis: Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment.
Negotiating: Knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques; ability to negotiate successfully across the organization and with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner.
Top Candidates will also have:
Bachelor’s degree in an accredited engineering curriculum.
Relevant product development and/or support experience.
Product development/market introduction process experience.
Experience with technology products and mining machines.
Experience and understanding of the mining industry and processes.
Experience with the application of automation and information technologies to vehicles or mobile equipment.
Additional Information:
The primary location for this position is Peoria, IL, or Tucson, AZ.
Domestic relocation assistance is available.
This position may require 20% travel.
