Overview

Bowhead Total Enterprise Solutions seeks a Communications Specialist experienced in internal and external communications to join our team in support Naval Test Wing Atlantic and the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School located at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD.

Responsibilities

Create and edit articles, news releases, fact sheets, talking points and other written content to stimulate internal and external interest in command accomplishments and enhance understanding of the command, its workforce and mission

Cultivate relationships with the organization’s leadership, staff, and collateral duty public affairs officers to identify and pursue story ideas

Participate in regular meetings (in-person and virtual) to stay abreast of organizational accomplishments and to keep the organization informed of current and upcoming public relations activities

Respond to requests from federal public affairs officers for information in response to external media queries

Work with editors of other internal publications to repurpose content for use in their publications

Identify appropriate media outlets and venues for written content to assist the federal public affairs officer in placing stories for wider dissemination

Provide photo support for in-person and virtual events and ceremonies, including working with IT specialists to provide live-streaming capability

Help leadership communicate effectively with the their employees and the general public

Help maintain the organization’s corporate image and identity

Ensure audiovisual records of events are preserved for internal documentation purposes

Draft speeches, talking points and presentations for the organization’s leadership

Evaluate outreach programs to determine whether they are compatible with the organization’s public relations efforts

Prepare, submit and monitor customer requests for public-release review of written and audiovisual materials

Develop and implement strategic communications objectives and goals in conjunction with organizational directives as requested, and provide regular updates to leadership on goal accomplishments

Coordinate media participation in special events and ceremonies as appropriate. Advisory: advise senior leadership on likely public affairs implications of command endeavors. Ensures advance preparation of senior management and technical personnel who participate in media interviews and public and contractor presentations.

Develops and delivers public affairs recommendations based on analysis of public feedback; policy statements and guidance material; even when the recommendations may be difficult for leadership to hear. Assist with assessment of suitability; probable impact of and coordinates approval of all materials prepared by contractor and government personnel intended for public release. These include marketing brochures; posters; videos; technical presentations; advertising copy; social media posts and similar materials.

Creates and edits news releases; fact sheets; talking points and other material to stimulate internal and external interest in command accomplishments and enhance understanding of the command; its workforce; mission; and contribution to the national defense. Identify opportunities for the creation of compelling photographs and video footage; coordinating closely with the VI organization to create; storyboard and script products as needed.

Qualifications

BS or BA degree in communication, journalism, or a related writing-intensive field with 5 or more years of experience.

Must have a solid command of writing articles, captions and other products in Associated Press style.

Must have experience developing and executing communication strategies.

Prior military experience preferred.

Photography skills required.

Will be required to successfully pass Authorized Safe Driver screen.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
