The Sr. Operations Manager is a key member of the plant senior leadership team providing leadership and production support, in a WCM environment, in the Mebane Center of Excellence. The Sr. Operations Manager is responsible for the implementation of all WAM (World Class Armacell Mindset/World Class Manufacturing initiatives/projects) to enhance organizational effectiveness. This position ensures the production department operates at the highest level of safety, quality, delivery, and efficiencies with a strong focus on continuous improvement methodologies. The leader will be responsible for managing operations in the facility to ensure key performance metrics are achieved. They will also provide hands-on application and teaching of WAM tools and methodologies with all plant employees. Furthermore, they will uphold the WAM Standards by coaching the WAM Pillar Leaders and the Plant Manager.

Job Responsibilities
– Drive a culture where safety is a principle engrained in everything we do.
– Works to continuously improve the company standards while focusing on procedures, equipment, and continuous improvement activities utilizing the WAM tools and methodologies.
– Manages departmental performance measures, goals, budgets, visual controls and provides regular progress reports to the Plant Manager
– Lead the operations team and ensure the quality of the products meet standard and OTIF schedule adherence levels are being achieved.
– Coach and mentor department managers and WAM Pillar leaders.
– Establish standard operating procedures and ensure standard work is followed by the use of WAM tools and methodologies.
– Analyzing data while investigating issues around quality, and able to determine root cause of quality issues with a solid corrective action plan that supports the companys standards and goals
– Perform accident investigations and ensure robust countermeasures are put in place.
– Establish goals and objectives for direct reports through the Annual Performance Development Review process.
– Assist in establishing the operation budget for manufacturing and execute that budget.
– Coordinate with Human Resources on production staffing needs and team training.
– Establish and create standard operating procedures and ensure standard work is followed and tracked and the use of lean concept is followed.
– Coordinates the planning and execution of WAM projects through working with Line Management, WAM Pillar Leaders and WAM Project Teams to implement and ensure sustaining mechanisms are in place.
– Strategizes with management to initiate WAM projects. Determines the scope, objectives, metrics, costs, schedule and necessary resource requirements through the use of the cost deployment pillar.
– Monitors the completion of tasks and sustains activities generated in project meetings and ensures successful completion of action items.
– Leads WAM training efforts in educating Team Members in the WAM manufacturing concepts, tools and methods.
– Ensures WAM Site Pillar Boards are updated monthly.
– Provides updates at monthly and semi-annual WAM Steering Team – Americas meetings.
– Proactively involves employees at all levels of the organization to gain their input and support.
– Participates in Kaizen events at other plants and with customers.
– Benchmarks industry best practices to identify future improvements and opportunities.
– Teaches the proper use of WAM Problem Solving tools IE: OPL, SOP, QK, EWOs, SRCAs, Standard Kaizen, Major Kaizen, Standard Work, etc.
– Coordinates preparations for semi-annual WAM Audits.
– Drives WAM Standard for Continuous Improvement by using WAM Process Improvement Tools and Methodologies.
Job Qualifications and Requirements
– Bachelors degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education / experience
– 5-7 years Management experience in a manufacturing environment in a large facility.
– Leadership style that demonstrates the ability to lead people and get results through others as a leader
– Planning ability to think ahead and plan over a 30-day time span and prepare action plans to achieve results
– Experience in budgeting, standard cost systems and capital.
– PandL experience preferred, strong understanding of financials in manufacturing environment required.
– Supervision, including employee hiring, training, retention, performance review and discipline.
– Strong, proven management skills are a must which include, but are not limited to, the ability to be consistent, self-starter, fair, and honest as well as being held accountable for our own performance
– WCM/Lean/Continuous experience is preferred
– Excellent computer skills, working knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and word processing required. Knowledge of SAP and MES systems a plus.
– Maintain visible leadership on the plant floor and all levels of the organization with the ability to influence colleagues at different levels in the organization.
– Rubber extrusion, and or foaming experience is a plus.
– Possesses professional written and verbal communication skills.
