Director of Pricing

We are currently searching for a Director of Pricing to join our growing team!
This position will lead the pricing function which supports our Retail Stores for 2 major brands (~1,200 stores). Reporting to the Chief Merchandising and Managed Care Officer, the Director of Pricing will play a crucial role in developing and implementing pricing plans and tactics to maximize profitability, achieve business objectives, and remain attractive to consumers. This role will work closely with various teams and the Pricing Council (Marketing, Merchandising, Store leadership and Finance) to recommend and optimize pricing plans and decisions. This role will be responsible for analyzing market trends, monitoring competitor pricing, collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize pricing decisions, and presenting and working directly with the C-suite. This position requires a strong analytical mindset, exceptional communication skills, and constant curiosity.
What Would You Do? The Specifics.
Pricing Performance Monitoring: Compiles dashboards and reports to monitor pricing performance, including key pricing metrics, sales trends, and profitability analysis. Identifies areas of improvement and develops action plans to address pricing challenges.
Competitive Positioning: Identifies business/market dynamics that present opportunities, triggers remedial moves, or causes watch outs in the near future. Monitors competitor pricing promotions, and market positioning. Provides insights and recommendations to maintain a competitive edge.
Consumer Understanding: Monitors and understands consumer behavior and sensitivity to pricing actions; tracks shopper segments’ willingness to pay and makes pricing initiative recommendations, as needed. Demonstrates understanding of tradeoffs between demand volume, profitability and being competitive in market.
Pilot and Market Evaluation: Evaluates pricing initiative performance (market and pilot) and provides recommendations to address. Understands the dynamics of regional pricing vs. national pricing.
Pricing Plan Development: Develops and executes pricing plans and strategy that align with the companys overall business goals and objectives. Skilled at understanding current state pricing and how best to simplify pricing structures. Analyzes market dynamics, customer demand, and competitive landscape to identify pricing opportunities and risks using decision support tools and quantifies opportunity or design potential initiative.
Pricing Analysis: Evaluates risk profile of each tactic/initiative based on previously established parameters. Utilizes pricing analytics tools and techniques to identify pricing gaps and recommend corrective actions. Savvy with pricing bundles, as well as Loyalty program (Club) constructs.
Pricing Optimization: Collaborates with various teams and the Pricing Council to optimize pricing plans and promotions. Implements pricing tests and experiments to measure the impact on customer behavior and profitability. Identifies opportunities for revenue growth and margin improvement and provide recommended next steps.
Promotions: Evaluates the financial and market impact of promotions, ensuring alignment with pricing strategy. Analyzes historical promotion data to identify trends and areas of improvement. Develops and maintains metrics for measuring promotion effectiveness such as ROI, margin impact and sales lift.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Works closely with various departments, such as Merchandising, FP&A, Store Operations, Marketing, to gather input, align, and drive pricing initiatives.
Builds strong relationships across the business, including Finance and other functions such as Marketing and Merchandising.
Work Experience
8 years Proven experience in pricing strategy, Market analysis, and financial modeling. (Required)
4-6 years experience in multi-unit retail. (Preferred)
Education
Four-year college degree or equivalent experience. Strategy, Business, Economics or related field. (Required)
Masters Degree MBA (Preferred)
Additional Skills Required
Strong core pricing skills, including elasticity modeling.
Multi-unit Retail experience required (B2C); Optical industry experience a plus.
