Senior Classification Officer – 70039215

This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Franklin Correctional Institution in the Classification Department.

Salary Range: $55,043.30 annually

SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY. PROMOTIONS TO THE POSITION GENERALLY DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM OF THE ABOVE LISTED SALARY RANGE.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for managing inmates using a collaborative case management approach to meet the inmates needs through communication and available resources. Duties associated with case management include:

Responsible for managing a caseload of inmates, including inmates in special statuses.

Responsible for recommending the custody classification and the institutional and program assignments of inmates at a correctional institution.

Evaluates information from reports, interviews, and correspondence for recommendations for inmate custody classification, program participation and work/program assignment for inmates in special statuses and reviews inmates for special status recommendation.

Prepares inmate management plans.

Supervises and evaluates inmate progress and prepares progress reports for inmates in special statuses.

Serves as the assistant supervisor in a classification section.

Assists the Classification Supervisor in the administrative functions of the classification sections.

Maintains inmate information on the department offender database system.

Assists in training new classification staff.

Evaluates, monitors and record inmate gain time awards.

Responds to inmate requests, correspondence and telephone inquiries.

Observe and interact with inmates at their work assignment, housing assignment and educational/vocational assignment.

Visit confinement/management units as necessary.

Manages a Release Officer caseload including those pending release.

Attends mandatory and other training as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess two (2) years of Classification Officer experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualifications:

Experience with file audit and custody procedures.

Possess a working knowledge of disciplinary processes

Capability to handle large volumes of inmate change and movement.

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.
