Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions of the position include but are not limited to:
Direct, monitor, facilitate and evaluate the work of the distribution staff (~ 20 employees) in order to make sure that the departments achieve their targets with respect to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, Continuous Improvement, & Customer Allegiance.
Drive daily Start Up meetings to review safety/receiving/picking/shipping/quality performance; develop & communicate solutions to problems through root-cause analysis that cause deviations to the planned schedule.
Accomplishes warehouse human resource objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, mentoring, counseling, and developing employees; ensuring clear job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures.
Analyze existing processes and propose improvements and new methods to control costs and improve customer happiness through LEAN, Six-Sigma, Kaizen, PPI, etc.
Recommend capital expenditures to optimize the department and become more scalable.
Monitor expenditures; identify variances; and implement corrective actions.
Conduct daily reviews of backlog and customer past due to ensure complete alignment through Customer Service, Warehouse and Purchasing to drive on time delivery to customers.
Suggest changes in working conditions and equipment use to increase efficiency & performance of equipment & personnel safety. Keeps equipment operating by implementing operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; requiring preventive maintenance; scheduling repairs.
As a key management team member, the Distribution Manager will also be required to implement the company’s strategic plan as well as be involved in the evaluation and analysis of the business objectives.
Decision Making Authority
Recommends solutions to management on safety concerns; receiving, picking, & shipping issues, and equipment problems & outages.
Coordinate with management & Site Leader ensuring that staffing levels are set to meet site goals.
Meet with department Leads daily to ensure that work schedules are appropriate to meet receiving, picking, shipping goals.
Provide instructions about standard operating procedures, material handling equipment, and help in resolving issues.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
BS degree – Engineering / Business preferred
Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a Distribution Environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to perform key functions
Possess effective written & verbal skills including tact & subtlety.
Must be willing to work weekday and weekend overtime if needed.
Strong analytical, mathematical, interpersonal, problem solving, and time management skills as well as mechanical competence.
Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations & ISO9000 quality procedures.
Proficient in the use of software applications, ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office suite.
Must have basic operating knowledge of fork trucks, order pickers, and turret trucks.
Daily Interactions
This position may interact daily with Distribution Leads, Production Department, Customer Service, Process Engineer, IT, Inventory Department, Purchasing Department, Quality Department, Supply Chain Manager, Site Leader & HR.
