POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment in downtown municipal buildings and various other City locations; performs minor repair activities related to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating; provides work direction to individuals engaged in routine building and grounds maintenance activities; performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
– Acts as crew leader in assigning, reviewing and coordinating the work of subordinate personnel engaged in a variety of activities related to routine building and ground maintenance.
– Maintains buildings, grounds and building equipment in good condition;
– Inspects buildings and makes necessary repairs to structures and equipment.
– Paints interior and exterior surfaces, makes carpentry repairs, makes plaster and plumbing repairs and adjusts and maintains heating and cooling equipment.
– Maintains exterior grounds, sidewalks and parking lots in clean condition;
– Rakes leaves, removes snow and ice, and spreads salt when necessary.
– Repairs, replaces and moves desks, tables, chairs and other related items.
– Installs electrical fixtures such as switches, receptacles, lighting fixtures and fuse boxes.
– Performs minor maintenance and adjustments on elevators.
– Replaces and installs park playground equipment, swings, slides, etc.
– Does minor sheet metal work.
– Loads and unloads materials.
– Moves furniture and office equipment.
– Inspects buildings for damage and vandalism.
– Assists in maintenance of baseball diamonds and recreation centers.
– Assists journeyman in major repairs.
– Prepares reports as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
– Methods, practices and techniques of building and grounds maintenance.
– Equipment, tools and materials used in Building & Grounds Maintenance.
– Computer system maintenance techniques.
– Energy Management Systems.
Skill in:
– Understanding and following oral and written instructions.
– Use of small tools and equipment.
– Overseeing and coordinating the work of assigned personnel.
– Reading prints and diagrams.
– Maintaining records and preparing reports.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS:
– Graduation from high school or equivalent
– Four (4) years of building maintenance or related experience.
– Must possess a valid drivers license
