About This Position:
Incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties independently with little to no supervision on a daily basis. The incumbent is expected to exercise a high degree of independent judgment and initiative in determining the approach/action to take in non-routine situations that may arise. This position must possess an extensive knowledge of DOTD procurement and accounting policies and procedures in accordance with Louisiana and Federal guidelines, and DOTD Business Services and Procedures Manual, to report and document all accounting activities accomplished. Incumbent participates in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attends all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
Preference will be given to employees with a financial background, including experience in but not limited to AP/AR, banking, inventory control, and payroll.
Accounting Technician- $1,200.80 Biweekly
Applicants with extraordinary qualifications may be considered for a higher starting hourly rate based on Civil Service Rule 6.5(g).

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, or numerical computation.
College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
An Associate Degree in Accounting, Accounting Technology, or Business from an accredited college or university will substitute for two years of the required experience.
Training in a vocational-technical school or military school in Accounting, Accounting Technology, or Business will substitute for up to one year of required experience on the basis of one month of training for one month of experience.
NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Examples of Work
Extracts information and prepares portions of reports and/or schedules for higher-level accounting professionals in a budget unit.
Extracts and manipulates information and prepares weekly or biweekly financial reports and schedules for state and federal reports to be used by higher level accounting professionals.
Responsible for posting and journalizing ledgers and preparing financial accounts reports such as those for complex grants in a large central fiscal office.
Reconciles biweekly or monthly bank statements/accounts.
Prepares biweekly financial projections.
