This vacancy is located in theNursing DepartmentofLDH/OAAS/VILLA FELICIANA MEDICAL COMPLEX in Jackson, Louisiana. This position may be filled by a Probation or Promotion of a permanent state employee. The shifts are 12 hour shift with rotating weekends. The shifts will begin at 5:45am to 6:15pm or 5:45pm to 6:15am

Special Entrance Rates Apply: NA 1-$12.15 an hour NA2- $13.00 an hour.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Six months of experience or training in patient care.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Graduation from an accredited registered or practical nursing program will substitute for all of the required experience.

Possession of a valid Certified Nursing Assistant certificate will substitute for all of the required experience.

Completion of a medical assistant training program will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis.

Graduation from an accredited Emergency Medical Technician Program will substitute for all of the required experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require that applicants possess a valid Certified Nursing Assistant certificate as required by federal mandate implemented in 1987.

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Examples of Work

This position in sub-professional Nursing work involving more specialized and most advanced non-professional nursing procedures to provide personal care to assist in recuperation or rehabilitation of patients. This involves specific nursing assignments and will be responsible for total patient care. Will provide comfort, maintain cleanliness and safety for the patients.

VFMC is a specialized 24-hour medical facility operating with 150-175 staffed beds, with a license capacity of 299 beds. All beds are licensed hospital beds. The facility operates a small hospital unit surveyed by health standards using hospital licensing requirements. The remainder of the facility is surveyed annually under CMS and state standard guidelines for long term care facilities. Specialized units include 37 beds for acute and subacute care for clinically complex patients (respiratory care, bariatric care, complex wound care, etc.) and the only inpatient tuberculosis program in the state. One patient care building houses 100-110 patients with a combination diagnosis of mental illness/chronic medical conditions. The facility is staffed with a table of organization of 216 classified positions and 20 unclassified positions with a budget in excess of $25 million. The physical plant consists of three patient care buildings, administrative building, activity buildings, support service buildings, staff residences, and a variety of storage and special purpose structures, located on a 157 acre site with its own fresh water system, sewer system, chiller and boiler systems and electrical distribution system. This facility has control of passage with a security gate at entrance

40% Provide personal hygiene, which includes but is not limited to, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, nail care, skin care, etc., of patients. Change soiled lined when necessary. Operated whirlpool tub daily. Turn and position ambulated patients as required by ward nurse.

25% Obtain and record vital signs of patients and report abnormal readings to the ward nurse. Provide personal interaction/stimulation to aid in daily resident orientation. Accurately maintain patient records of ADL’s round sheets, restraint record and weight record. Make ward rounds every hour or ½ hour, as designated by shift, of assigned patient of determine their needs and maintain safety. Monitor patient’s general condition and appearance to ward nurse. Weigh patients, assist physician and nurse as directed, collect specimen, Intake and Output; provide and/or assist with provision of special treatment procedures such as impactions, enemas, & douches. Assist in emergency situations.

15% Direct and assist feeding of patients at meal time to insure adequate nutrition and hydration, spoon feed as needed, distribute fluids, serve between meal feedings and bedtime snacks. Monitor intake and output of fluids.

5% Responsible for properly storing supplies and equipment; collect soiled linen, bedpans and urinals. Run errands to secure necessary equipment and supplies as directed by supervisory personnel. Responsible for cleanliness of whirlpool tub, shower and bath tub after each patient’s use. Count linen when brought by linen service; issue clean linen to wards; document all exchange and maintain daily linen inventory.

Responsible for laundering and storing patient clothing to insure proper use by owner. Maintain cleanliness and safe environment of patient areas on a daily assignment; weekly clean beds, bedside table and equipment.

5% Receive report from previous shift, make rounds to check and observe patients, reporting changes to ward nurse, give report to on-coming shift.

5% Escort, transport patients to and from dining room, beauty/barber shop, x-ray, clinic appointments, recreational activities, and any other patient functions as delegated by ward nurse.

5% Participate and attend departmental meetings and in-service programs. Attend mandatory training classes annually. Maintain CPR certification.

Performs other duties not listed in job description, but are necessary to expedite patient care and for smooth operation of the department.
